It is lovely, I don't remember if it bloomed worth anything last year or not. I don't recall getting mildew on any of the roses, maybe a little on my Harison, no, they don't get anything, but I think so, a little. It hits our lilacs the worst sometimes. Sometimes I feel a little cheated that we can't grow some of the roses others are able to grow.

Now that I mentioned lilacs, I saw some discussion with links to photos (not here on GW) about these incredible lilacs that grow in N CA, can't remember what they are called. I never imagined lilacs could be that huge and beautiful. We do have many lovely ones, but nothing like those.

Better not get started on lilacs.

I've had CPM for a couple of years and have watched its development with interest. It seems to be a prudent rose: it grows, moderately, blooms nicely, grows some more, blooms some more; never disturbed by drought, never going beyond its strength. It's building up in leisurely fashion. I've never seen a rose that gave me that impression, of knowing its limits and staying within them.

Thank you, Melissa and Florence. That is encouraging I must say. A few pretty blooms make it all seem worthwhile, like they are smiling at you.

CPM I gave plenty of room to stretch, enough sun except where a couple are, she can do as she pleases, interesting observation about drought tolerance and growth habits.

No, indeed, things aren't perfect, but I try to find pleasure in successes and, yes, I get mightily discouraged at times like I'm sure others do at times, too.

It's nice to get to know some of you better. I don't feel like I'm the only senior citizen around here and am truly inspired by those who are growing older, even older than me, and labor at what they love even though they can't do things they could when younger. Only a very few can do that. Some things I really can't do any more, but some things I thought I couldn't do any more, I made myself do it and gained confidence that I can still do a lot.

I can certainly empathize with your troubles, frustrations and disappointments and share in your joys. You both have been through a lot. I try not to think too far ahead but always try to be planning some little new thing to look forward to.

It's raining and thundering. Again. I snatched up my seedlings and put them on the porch when it just got started. I want it to stop, but I don't want drought later on and so wish we could share some of ours with people who desperately need it and are cutting way back.

The Enfant is little known. Thank you Pickering for carrying it. You mention it being single? yet show a picture that is like mine, a double. A beautiful rose that does rebloom but mine being new last year may improve with time. Shades of pink in the flower. Oh it is highly recommended in QR, that's how I became aware of it. For our area checking whether Pickering carries a rose or not is a good clue on whether a rose is worth growing or not.

jim, my apologies. My photo clearly shows it is a double and very much so.

What I should have said is that it does not appear to bloom in clusters like Evelyn and some of the others.

Mine didn't do anything much at all last year and multiple things ruined it. I can only hope that each year, if I care for it properly, it will improve. Even grafted roses for me seem to take some time to settle in plus they got off to a bad start having had to hold them in a bucket for 3 weeks because of the late freeze last year and my inexperience with growing anything but the easiest of roses in the past.

I would second everything Melissa said about CPM. It's a gorgeous rose with a delicious, fruity fragrance. The colour here is a golden apricot, almost mango in the middle with creamy yellow outer petals as the new flower opens, the whole bloom later fading to paler apricot. In this photo you can see various stages of the rose's development:
