Shumard Oak No Longer a Texas Super Star?

Tim

Last year the Shumard Oak tree was listed as a Texas Super Star plant. However, I went to the website today, http://texassuperstar.com/plants/index.html, and the Shumard Oak is no longer listed as a Super Star.

Was it removed as a result of the oak wilt epidemic that I hear has been hitting Central Texas right now? I understand a lot of Shumard Oak trees and other Red Oak species have been severly affected.

Please let me know if you have any info. I considered planting a Shumard here in south Central Kansas, but I don't want to if there is a chance that this oak wilt outbreak is gradually moving North.
