Wild roses in the CA Trinity Alps

I was at our cabin up in the Trinity Alps in CA on Coffee Creek for a few days. It is at about 3500 feet in way No Cal. Discussions on here in the past had pointed out that roses hybridize a lot, and even if you could identify something as being sort of rosa californica, there could be different kinds. Here are pictures of several different bushes I found, which demonstrate this. Some have 9 leaflets, some less. Most were about 2-3 feet high, but one long stand (about 15 feet long by 6 feet wide) did not have any plant taller than 10 inches! Those short ones were also notable because they were colonizing the road - came right up through the asphalt! Most had thorns spaced about every 4 inches on the main stems, but one had so many close together thorns on its stems that it looked fuzzy. I only found one flower just opening - most had already set small round hips. The one flower is about the size of a dime. Just putting these out there for your amusement -

Jackie
