Yes, the new soil in the self-watering pot will absorb the water (capillary action) and the roots of the little 4" pot plant will seek the moisture. Think of dipping the edge of a dry sponge slowly into a bowl of water  same thing. It wicks up. No offense, but you may be mothering the little guy too much. Stick him into a new self-watering pot, mine is an 8" diameter off the rack plastic job, put enough soil on the bottom of the pot to bring your azaleaÂs crown up to the just below the rim of the pot and then encircle him with more new dirt. Pat him into place, fill the reservoir with water, put the pot near some indirect light, not direct hotter than blazes western sun, and see what happens. Bottom line with any plant, if itÂs meant to live in your house, it will. If he conks out, at least you have a self-watering pot for the next attempt. My indoor azalea just happens to be happy, but I canÂt grow cyclamen  never could. You just do the best you can. Oh, btw, I do not put my indoor azalea outside, and yes, those little leaves would absolutely get fried. An open window for air circulation on a nice day, sure  circulating air helps to keep spider mites away. A day at the beach for the little fella? Nooo. All it wants is some light  direct sun is unnecessary. YouÂre little fellow is already feeling poorly, any extreme in light, temperature, feeding, etc., would probably push him into the next time zone. WonÂt hurt to let him try to recover in moist soil with a steady reservoir of water in regular household temperatures. Any more than that, and youÂd likely be in overkill territory. Give him a month or so with just constant moisture (not wet) and see if new life springs forth. Never know, he might make it! Kindly, Jane P.S. Stop misting. Okay just in case someone else is wondering the same thing, I'll follow up with my own post. Even though my hibiscus is still not looking spectacular, it is looking much better than last week, and I believe it was just transplant shock. I realize now too that I think it might have been too windy for a couple days and I think the plant may not have been able to establish itself in the pot due to the movement of the plant by the wind. After taking wire and securing it and then continuing to water it (mixed with a couple rainy days), it seems to have come back to life! So if your hibiscus is transplanted and a week later it still looks like it's struggling, it may still just be in shock!

pea forum ... who knew ... wait.. i didnt find a pea forum ... what was the answer .... i was go to tell a newb.. that it is a very short season plant ... and the simple solution is to rip it out.. and be done with it ... perhaps suggest.. planting in waves next year .... plant a few seed every two weeks or so ... see if you cant extend the bounty a bit more ... can you link us to the answer??? the hardest lesson for a newb.. IMHO ... is when to call it quits ... in FALL!!!! ... yes.. its very close.. even in z9 ... remember.. that even though your are very temperate... the sun is in decline... less intense .. and plants are shutting down .. some.. much faster than others ... and its not really time to be treating those 'cures' .... if you recall on the pea seed pack ... it probably said something like.. and its been 30 plus years since i looked at one ... germination in 7 days .. and harvest in 45 ... meaning.. fast.. furious ... and kaput.. done with ... especially.. compared to your fall harvest plants like ... broccoli.. kale ... brussel sprouts... etc ... the crops that were marked 120 days to harvest.. or some such.. again.. i am just using numbers as example.. you can look them up for real ... good luck... you are on the verge.. of no longer being a rookie... lol ... thx ken Here is a link that might be useful: found it...

Yes but they vary a great deal. This study puts 'Nova Zembla' in the fully susceptible category, albeit not as bad as some others: https://web.archive.org/web/20151220161750/http://www.holdenarb.org/education/documents/krebs-wilson2002.pdf  I don't think any plants in that category should be promoted outside the coastal northeast or PNW as mass-marketed plants. Especially, as you say, with high summer temps becoming more common. It's different if Rarefind wants to sell them. That big box stores and their wholesalers do something is neither here nor there. A bad idea is a bad idea. "but with a couple of weeks of temperatures in the upper 90's accompanied by drenching rains, any variety is at risk." Well the Southgates and previous non-patented R. hyperythum hybrids, bred in Louisiana, seem to tolerate these conditions just fine. Assuming they are in reasonably well drained soil. I actually have mixed feelings about them though. If they become gas station plants throughout the southeastern US, seems to increase the likelihood of further evolution of pathogens to attack them. Will hopefully never happen. I'm using those as rootstocks for PNW cultivars.
