What's happening to white oak leaves?

I planted this white oak last fall. Everything's been going well until this week where I noticed something going on with the leaves. Tough to make out in the last pic, but it's spreading through the whole tree.

Anything I should be concerned about? Not sure what relevant info I can give other than we've had ideal conditions as far as rain/sun over the past few months. Also, I have another white oak in my back yard that I planted last year which does not have this problem, and I got that form a different nursery.

Powdery mildew it is? Ugh. I've never had it before in 29 years. Of course we've never had a growing season like we've had this year either. Oh, yes, we had more rain in June and July than anyone can imagine and cool temps too. Finally get sun and then get hit with daily heavy thunderstorms, sometimes several times in a day. finally get some sun and warmth? Nope not warmth, brutal heat and humidity that borders on Florida with the humidity levels and no air moving either. Hit the leaves of all the plants around 4:30 yesterday afternoon with a nice shower spray from the hose. Hopefully that will prevent any further damage, and just hope that it doesn't do in all my cosmos. Thanks for the info, diagosis and a sort of treatment plan. Fran

Thanks guys! Replying to both comments: 1) Yes they look better on camera than in real life. I did not test soil, it's a part of routine fertilizing I do every year, didn't have problems before, applied according instruction 1 cup per 10x10 ft. There were high winds along with storms, very high winds I'd say, like 50+ mph. 2) I use castile soap diluted in water 5 tbsp per 1 gal. Thanks!

Thanks for your replies. We are located on the Central Coast in California. We are due east of the coastal towns. The tree is large and is obviously old but has undergone some drastic changes just since Thanksgiving. The leaves are now a pale green whereas the oaks near it (within 100') are still healthy looking. I'll look up slime flux and see if that look familiar to what we have. Thanks again.

I'm a westerner so someone may come along and correct me, but you may want to find time to send in a sample to the Co Extension (the state PSU website seems to be FUBARed today so I can't look), but that seems like mid-onset Bacterial Leaf Scorch symptoms from here. Also see some environmental stress as well. If BLS, no cure, but again I'm a westerner.

I sent the pics to the nursery. Said they didn't know what to make of the leaves but that perhaps I'm overwatering it. Hasn't gotten much worse since I posted this.

Anyone else see something bad going on? If it's something that could potentially spread, I'd like to catch it as soon as possible.

The nursery isn't going to help you much; you need, as an earlier poster said, the county extension agent. I hope that I have properly inserted the URL to get you to a page that will help you to track down your agent.

No response to my email. About 1/3 of the leaves have fallen over the past few days. Not looking good.

Took a sample to the plant clinic at the local arboretum. Told me it was leaf scorch, but not the bacterial variety. They want me to send in a soil sample.

Do you mean bacterial?

I thought leaf scortch was from winds and heat and the leaf isn't able to maintain moisture.

No, they said it wasn't BLS.
