Mutabilis - too big and too cold?

I was thinking of Mutabilis for the back of this bed but after reading a couple of posts, I wonder if it is too large. Also if a china would be opposed to our cold Winter. It can get down to 10f degrees or below at times. Could a China take that? Here is the site:

In inherited most of this bed with the house, and it is a little overgrown. The bed has peonies in front, daylilies, spiderwort, butterfly bush and some veronica. I have recently considering trying a Gallica because it would be fine when not in bloom since there are other things in bloom. Would this be an okay spot for a Gallica? The butterfly bush can get up to 6 feet but I prune it HARD in Spring so it takes a while to grow back. Would a Gallica be too small?
