Need help with a Sissoo, Indian Rosewood

Hello, I recently moved to a new home and there are 7 Sissoo trees in the back yard. All are about 2 years old from what I can tell. Only one of them has recently lost all it's leaves. When we first looked at the house in early May, the tree had a nice green canopy. Within weeks all the leaves turned brown and dropped. I don't see any signs of new growth. It is getting water from the drip so I know it's not a water problem. From what I have read about the tree, it loses leaves in the winter, not late spring. Please help, I do not want to lose such a beautiful tree.

Dan,
I am new to this site and forums. I do not know how to attatch a picture, I don't see a link or upload option. After inspecting the branches, they still have green life under the bark. A few of the small branches have dried out and I can easily snap off. I have tried deep watering it a few times in the last week, but still no progress.

You might have better luck with tall shrubs which can act as a screen. Suggestions would be Orange Bells, Yellow Bells, Arizona Rosewood, Hop Bush, or even Cape Honeysuckle. Keep in mind that plants don't muffle noise as effectively as a solid barrier like a fence, although they are more attractive. The Desert Museum is a great tree, but because it doesn't have a dense canopy it may not block as much as the Sissoo (Indian Rosewood) or even a mesquite.

I've discovered that I have to go to local nurseries to get anything out of the ordinary. Lowe's and Home Depot don't carry Sissoo. One of the nurseries delivered and planted, but the prices were about the same as above. I went to The Avocado in Coolidge, they always have what I am looking for. I decided to get 5 gallon plants and then hired a yard man to help me plant them. Turned out to be half the price. One is doing very well after July planting, the other two aren't growing as fast. During the planting process I discovered that all three trees, as well as other plants put in by the tract landscaper had grubs in the soil. I have been treating for them but have lost a sage and an AZ yellow bells to them. BE SURE TO CHECK THE ROOT BALL FOR THESE PESTS BEFORE YOU PLANTS ANYTHING.

I know this response is late, very late, but I couldn't help myself. People who comment negatively about rosewood furniture they have not seen, should simply be ignored. Responding to them isn't worth the effort. Let them embarrass themselves. My folks bought solid rosewood furniture from an importer friend, in the 50's 60's & 70's. It is Thai rosewood that was then manufactured into furniture in Hong Kong (only the best comes from Hong Kong vs Mainland China) and exported to the US. It is extraordinary wood. Now, beginning in the late 70's, rosewood was being exploited so quickly that the forests couldn't restore themselves (it is now extinct:-). As a result, they started using greener wood. This resulted in the furniture cracking and shrinking. NEVER NEVER NEVER use wood filler on rosewood. That would be a crime. Begin by oiling the wood with Danish Watco Walnut finish oil and apply with 0000 steel wool. If you do that every 2 weeks for about 2 m. onths, it should slow down or stop any cracking or shrinking. Then, have a professional restorer/woodworker/artisan repair the cracks. PLEASE don't start trying to make repairs yourself. You'll simply damage the furniture. Oiling once every year to 2 years will keep your rosewood in beautiful condition. Later on, you can oil less often. We oiled our rosewood every 5 years or so. It depends on your climate. Lastly, congratulations on your high quality, gorgeous furniture. There is nothing like rosewood. Most beautiful wood on the planet. Good luck!

Here I am again after coming in a few minutes ago. We could have worse vices, yes. I didn't realize the Dowdeswell Delphs were the NZ types. My good gardening friend, and far more experienced than I at growing perennials, grows these. I saw them a couple of weeks ago at her garden, and I've never seen such lovely delphs. I can't get her to take photos, so I can't share any pics, darn. I would be interested in the shorter ones you mentioned because of our awful wind. I expect to stake anything like that out here, but it gets to you after a while. If you hear anything more about the shorter ones, please let us know. As a cheap substitute for tall flowers like foxglove and delphiniums, I use double hollyhocks. They are quite lovely in all sorts of pastels, reseeding readily. I also gather seed and throw it out starting in late autumn. They are in all stages of growth and blooming, which means when half of them are blown down, there are more coming along. I never tie them up, and of course, they are the type of plant that really breaks good when they blow down. There's no saving them then. Jim, those marigolds are really stunning. I think I'll try them next year. I didn't realize that they were slug food in some areas. Definitely not here, though. I grow a lot of calendula or pot marigold, not a true marigold like you grow, more by accident than anything. They look good for about three weeks max, then go to seed. and do they produce seed. I really don't like them very well, and they are the darn blister beetles' favorite food. I like your train track scene, very green and beckoning--makes me want to walk along the tracks in that cool green grass. Well, back to viewing the hired goats eat brush out back. I would think that that would be a strong reason to suspect it might be a water problem. If the soil is staying too wet, the tree will suffer or die.

One of the easiest ways to provide your photo to be embedded into a post is to upload it onto an image hosting site such as Photobucket, Flickr, etc. That should be pretty straight forward, and the individual sites will give instructions on how to get your photos uploaded to their site when you sign up.

Once your picture has been uploaded, find its image location address (URL) by right clicking on the image and copying the image location. The URL will look something like:

http://somepicturesite.com/yourpicture.jpg.

Some sites may even provide the appropriate HTML code in a text box below the photo for your convenience. It will be the one that begins with a href=... (This code looks different than the code below, because it will actually produce a picture link instead of just a picture.)

Let's say, as an example, that the address of the picture you want to post is http://somepicturesite.com/yourpicture.jpg

To embed the picture into a post, use the command:
img src="http://somepicturesite.com/yourpicture.jpg">;

If your picture is too large to fit nicely into the text page, you can add a width attribute.

The command with the width attribute would look something like:
img src="http://somepicturesite.com/yourpicture.jpg"; width=600>

Another option is to use a text link which might be beneficial to people on slow connections.

To do this, use the command:
a href="http://somepicturesite.com/yourpicture.jpg">your text goes here/a>

Note that I had to use special characters to get the commands above to show up here without turning into pictures, but you can use them as shown (with the correct image web address).
