Gloves with good support

I guess I feel this is on topic since gloves are necessary for me, and perhaps everyone.

The glove brand that I have worn for many years no longer fit.I do not understand why since my hands are no larger than they have been, but the fit is bad. I do not want to mention the brand, but it is popular, and you need to measure your hand before ordering.

Do any of you have good gloves to recommend? I do not want the long rose gloves, and I do not want those specifically for thorns (so stiff that you cannot weed well). I want good durable gloves that are good for a rose garden, and basically keep the thorns from piercing your hand.

Do any of you have suggestions?

I just bought a pair of weeding gloves from gardengirlusa. Their garden gear is aimed at women. My gloves have a vintage rose pattern.

I'm going to order a trowel (smaller feminine hand) next.

Of course, Amazon! I can't believe I didn't think to look there. I was eyeing the disposable ones you get by the gross at the hardware store, but the fit is poor. Amazon has a good price on Atlas reg. Gloves. I just bought the Atlas "tough" version and a Wells Lamont pair w/a double nitrile dip on just the fingertips, which are of course pricier but Amazon has a decent bulk price. I will post back if either is sufficiently longer lasting than the plain jane models. Thanks.

I agree on the mechanical work gloves for delicate work if you must or need gloves. 1. Personally, I prefer no gloves to be honest and get a good feel and control unless they are needed. 2. Working firewood, I want some good leather in palms and finger areas but hard to find. 3. Home DepotÃ¯Â¿Â½s best are in the rental section and only go out with Roto rooters machines vs for sale. 4. I got the next best pair that will probably not last a year since the best gold ones did not (but saves splinter/bruises). Not the best or worst at the link below. These similar cheaper ones might last one or two jobs. If you use that back and forth pipe design, you may have trouble finding and reaching the fruits. Light and air flow may also be an issue with cramped tomato plants. If a hornworm caterpillar gets in there, you'll never find it. I would use one row of straight pipe, or two rows to return the water to the sump and grow a low plant in the front row. I'd put it at the edge of the eaves of my house. Use drop-ceiling screws and associated screwing socket to put a screw above each plant hole; screwed to the vertical face of the eaves end board. From the screws, run cheap mason twine to the pipe and attach the plants to it with tomato clips. I use all of that already for my hops plants, except they are in the ground with drip irrigation. I use the twine and tomato clips in my greenhouse to hold tomatoes, cantaloupe, and pumpkins overhead without problems. Here is a link that might be useful:

no it does not stand in landscape, only as shown. The padded fabric area that morphs into the stand is sewn on at the bottom so that makes it impossible to adjust that option. I added my review and the pics with the rollover notes on the amazon page for this case since there were no pics there for it. I like the ability to add the notes on the pictures. Body Glove E-Reader Travel Hard Shell Case, Black (9112601) I used it all day yesterday to see how I liked it and honestly I really do like the case, I thought it would make it heavy but it doesn't and for me it makes it easier to hold. With my arthritis in my hands it was at times hard to hold onto the thin slick PDN, this gives me much more to hold onto which really helps when you have trouble grasping in the first place. It does block the SD card slot but it holds the unit in so securely that sliding off one elastic band does not allow the PDN to fall out, the other 3 hold it in. The unique thing I did not mention is that this case actually has 8 elastic bands that you can choose from so that it will fit various ereaders, most only have the 4. Very nice for those that own more than one type of ereader. From the provided info it holds these: Fits the Amazon Kindle 2, Barnes & Noble Nook, and Sony Reader Daily Edition, Touch Edition and PRS-700 and now they can add the PDN to their list. After having been able to test it out, I would absolutely purchase it. Just wish it came in pink LOL

I prefer goatskin gloves as they are tougher (not stiffer) than the sheepskin gloves which are usually sold. The problem is that where I got my last pair, Gardener's Supply, is no longer selling them. If you can find them, go for 'em and tell me where you got them.

Thanks Buford, those are the ones I have been wearing. However, these three that I just ordered do not fit. It is a terrible disappointment, and once I return them, I do not want to wait for another set. I use the yellow ones instead of the specific rose ones since their fit seemed to be better.

Cath and Happy I will look for goatskin gloves. I thought maybe a new type of glove had been created that was popular. At this point I will first try a couple of our nurseries here, then go back online. The gardengirlusa is very tempting.

I am extremely pleased with the West County Gardener gloves made of a synthetic fabric. I can take a firm grasp of a very prickly rose and not get stabbed. I usually blow through all the finger tips of a pair of gloves in one week or less, but these have lasted for nearly a year and are still in good shape. Also washable. These are the only gloves that have held up for me. I am very rough on gloves.

Hi Sammy, maybe you don't have a problem with arthritis, however if you do, I would really recommend the Bear Wallow gloves. I have both their 'Perfect Gardener' and their 'Protector - Basics' rose pruning gauntlets. Both are goatskin but the Protector gauntlets have a split cowhide 'sleeve' that extends beyond my elbows so they're ideal for pruning all sorts of roses. The seams are on the outside of the gloves so they're extremely comfortable to wear, too.

I always had the goatskin gloves and loved them, but then I got into wearing rose gauntlets (I'm so accident-prone), so I don't currently have any. However, the place where I bought them is called Womanswork (www.womanswork.com), and I still get a catalog from them (and use it). I believe their goatskin gloves are now being made by a different company, and since I haven't gotten a pair lately, I can't vouch for the new version, but they look very much the same (different color), and they are made in the USA. They have a number of other gloves, as well as a variety of gardening items, and I have always had a good experience with them.

If you aren't looking for gauntlets but just regular sized gloves for working in the garden, I have always had great success just going by Ace Hardware and picking up some Stihl work gloves.
