Yup... that's tomato soup. It will fade to pink very quickly.. in a matter of a few days.. in heavy sun.

You can try moving it to a slightly shaded area to let them retain color more.

Oh Drat! I like the bright red orange.

Mine stay reddish orange for a long time.

So, er, um, full-day sun is not a must?

they seem to do better with part sun

yes. they were an expensive purchase for me too. Most people I know have had trouble with many of these newer echinacea cultivars - E.pallida is not very robust - and several of them are actually getting pinker and pinker over 3 years but T.soup. while nothing like as vigorous as E.purpurea, is holding its own with some shade under a cercis canadensis and R.moyesii. Looking terrific with Aster frikartii, Pennisetum orientale, salvia guaranitica, Panicum virgatum and Helenium 'Sahin's Early

Somewhat disappointed with it myself this season (planted last year) Initial colors are nice but it is nowhere near as vigorous as magnus or white swan.....but then I guess thats the point about the originals right?
