Comments (6)Sean, I hope you don't judge all Old Garden Roses by Zeffy. It was one of my first too. I'm not positive I didn't give up on it too soon - a little more than a year. I think it needs more cold than we can give it. I hope yours does really well. You'll have to post pics. But since it's a climber you'll have to give it a few years to be sure. I have teas and noisettes that are one or two years old that are blooming sparingly, especially in the heat, so don't give up on her for lack of bloom in the first few years. She may have a blackspot problem, too, as it is with long-caned Bourbons here. I read that she was good up to Zone 8 and other sources said Zone 9. She smells wonderful. The Teas, Noisettes, Chinas and short-caned Bourbons do well here, so you have a lot to choose from. Having tried myself, I wouldn't go too far afield from those groups with your experimenting - unless you want to spray for BS. All the best to you and welcome! Comments (21)Hi nik, I was thinking of Mrs B R Cant which is a tea. She gets big and has nice medium pink double flowers and is not a climber but she would still work. I may get her for another spot. Jasmina does look beautiful I like the full shape of her flowers. I will have to research on if she would do well here. I found these photos of Jasmina paired with Laguna...WOW!! http://www.mein-schoener-garten.de/experten/blog/rosen_und_mehr/2012/07/07/laguna-und-jasmina-kletterrosen Teas are new to me and I got a bunch of them this year :) I hope they work out for me here. We are hot and humid but drier in the late fall winter and early spring (unless it is a wet year like the last couple lol). We have a rainy season in the summer where it can rain almost every day at least a little, just enough to steam it up and make it miserable. ~sjn...See Morezephirine drouhin has turned into a blackspotted mess
Comments (5)Hello... I have 6 Zephrine Drouhin that I planted in front of my house 2 and 1/2 years ago. Its a very shady spot, with only 3 hours of sun the most. I live in MD Zone 6 and if i do not spray my roses, they all get all kinds of diseases, including Black Spot, Powdry Mildew, not mentioning mites and all kind of pests, especially japanese beetles and centipedes. I have to spray my roses every 15 days with Bayer 3-in-1 insect, disease & mite control. Since I started this routine, my roses are actually growing healthy and stronger and no signal of any disease, unless I forget to apply the spray them for some reason...See MoreZephirine Drouhin in the UK
Comments (17)The BBC are doing a series of Agatha Christie's, I really enjoyed the first one ''And Then There Were None'', which was shown a couple of years ago, I think it's been on in the States since, I was glued to my seat, it was riveting and scary stuff. The latest one ''Ordeal By Innocence'' was due to be shown at Christmas but has been shelved for the time being because the lead actor has been involved in sex allegations, similar to the Weinstein business, so they are waiting until that's been resolved. They are also doing the Tommy and Tuppence series, Tommy Beresford, the lesser known sleuth. We sometimes watch the old ones of these that were done in the 1970's, as they get repeated. I don't make time to read the books unfortunately, as I enjoy the films more. I don't know ''Sad Cypress'' at all....See Morekitchendetective
