Lagerfeld Rose---Light colored roses
Comments (2)My Lagerfeld does the same thing, and it is usually accompanied with balling of the bloom as well. My thrip infestation this year on it and others isn't too bad really as I did spray Merit twice this year already and I have also sprayed for botrytis with captan and daconil both at different times. I think that combination worked pretty well as I don't see the botrytis on my other white and light pink roses like I did last year--just a little bit especially after a long rainy spell. Comments (3)In balling, the outer, thin petals of the bloom stick together and rot to form a casing around the flower so that it cannot open. The inner petals are usually fine, as the outer petals are the issue. With thrips, blooms often open and blow quickly, showing damage throughout the bloom. If you pluck off a bloom and open it up when it shows this damage, you can often see little flower thrips scurrying about inside. Chili thrips are much smaller, however, and cause widespread destruction throughout the plant including new growth, existing growth, and buds. Hope this helps! Comments (10)Jan - It's best to apply a systemic before the buds form. The Bayer product says it works for 6 weeks. I'm thinking all the rain we've had flushed it out of the soil sooner than that. With that much rain, you probably needed to reapply in 4-5 weeks. As for Spinosad, you can apply it directly to the buds, old flowers, leaves etc. Last year, while my first dark flowers were thrip damaged, subsequent buds that had been sprayed for a few days with Spinosad showed little or no damage. Thrips go for the more mature buds - not the tiny ones. I hope this helps. I stocked up on the Spinosad this year. Debra...See MoreHow do you deal with family members buying you decor items.....
Comments (26)I usually give gifts with the receipt in the box. Like someone else said, I don't want to waste my money giving a gift the receiver doesn't like or can't use. I want THEM to be happy so if I guessed wrong, let them get something they like. Natal: I loved your thought. We have a green pyrex mixing bowl we always use on holidays because it was my MIL's. It's like she's enjoying the holiday with us. Oh, and my DIL's mother just buys stuff at the outlet, then figures out who to give it to later. Mostly clothes, so size is optional.
