Damage to the bark of my Texas Ash!

Yesterday our puppy scratched a large piece of bark off my Texas Ash. It's a young tree (the trunk is only about 2 inches in diameter), but it has been thriving up to this point.

The wound (stripped bark) starts a couple inches from the base and ends about 24 inches above the ground on one side of the trunk. The damage also extends about 30 - 50% around the circumference of the trunk.

My questions are as follows:

Can my tree survive this extensive damage?

If it can survive, is there anything I can do to help it along in its recovery?

Thanks.
