John Deere Timing Belt

I purchased a used JD LT155 with the Freedom 42 deck.

The product ID is M0L155C096419.

It has the Kohler 15HP C series engine.

The timing belt has broken. My dealer sold me a M127926 belt.

It seems heavier than the one I replaced.

I understand the blade placement issue but am unsure of the path of the belt.

A member from Florida sent me images of the LT150 book but the deck is not like mine.

I believe it to be very early. It has a one piece plastic shield covering the two main drive pullys and two idlers.

The adjustment spring is seperate and outside unlike many pictures I have located of the newer Freedom decks.

Can someone throw some light on this picture?

I put the belt on in the manner the others show but the wear pattern seems to be different and it rubs.

Thank you Bill I believe that might be it.
I tried the John Deere web sit but for an old fart like me who is just getting into this computer thing their site is not the easiest to navigate.

I found a solution. There is a cable that runs from the lever that engages the blades down to the tensioner pulley on the deck. The cable runs through a black cable guide that is secured on the deck with a bracket. Loosen the bolts on the bracket and slide it back (away from the pulley). This will tighten up the cable and keep more tension on the belt. I think that the cable stretches over time and usage.

Sometimes, just sometimes if you call the parts department at your local dealer, the guy might just pull the diagram up on the computer and e-mail a copy. I have had this work with car dealers where they sent me a needed portion of a wiring diagram or other assembly if you catch em in a good mood at a good time.

All in all, it is a somewhat straightforward installation. Deck off, drop one end of the steering arms to get the belt on, I believe the engine pulley needs to come down. Watch the position of the guide on the flat idler so it can be reinstalled properly. The nut above that bracket will loosen the pulley so you can slide the assembly and you can adjust the belt tension. The V idlers need only to be loosened. You have to manipulate the deck lift and clutch pedal to sneak the belt around the components up above.

I was looking at the JD parts website dpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.HomePageServlet_Alt And it appears there are two mower decks used on the L118. There appears to be some difference between the original and replacement deck. Could the origninal deck have died and it had to be replaced, consequently the belt problem? It appears the one version has a different attachment system. One seems to have a section that bolts to a piece that is attached to the deck itself. Could this piece be installed wrong, moving the deck forward?
