Where can I get hibiscus 'Disco Belle' seeds?

For some reason unbeknownst to me, my white/red eye Disco Belle hibiscus is sputtering out this year. The clump is at least 11-12 years old and has always been an old ironhorse (and a large one at that), but this year she is a one-stem wonder. No clue what happened, but I'd like to start a few more from seed to have ready to go in case she finally peters out next season.

Problem is - when I see "Disco Belle" seeds for sale, it's always a mixed packet, and I want the white/red eye one only. Anyone have any clue where I can get the seed?

I used to purchase them through Thompson and Morgan seeds. I think they still carry them.

I took a look at Thompson and Morgan as you mentioned, and they don't have them.

Swallowtail has Disco Belle as a mix.

Well, if I can't find them, I can get individual colors of the Luna series. I bought three Luna pink last summer, and so far they are doing beautifully, so if they turn out to be winners I'll get seeds for Luna if my Disco Belle search is futile.

Anyone else have any suggestions where to look?

elita, in most of the country, the time to purchase flowering annuals and perennials is over, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if you can find them in your area. Especially considering that, like their larger cousins (Petunias), they can withstand freezes and frosts. You can find this pretty little plant in ANY garden center, big box store, etc. It has been very popular for several years. Look for them in hanging baskets.

You run a risk of moving them twice in the same season so caution suggests waiting until they've been in place for a season unless there's no other alternative. Weigh that against the fact they're likely in the process of going dormant now that the soil is cooling and the hours of daylight are shortening. Personally I'd wait until spring since they're late-season bloomers and would benefit from the entire early-mid growing season to acclimate to their new location unless there's a compelling reason to move them now. I guess I'd weigh the risks of losing them against the benefits of moving them. Personally I'd choose the former rather than the latter but each gardener makes choices that satisfy his/her own priorities. Best of luck Kevin!

This must be a massachusetts thing.I got one last summer off ebay and it bloomed this year.One stem is pale pink and the other white with the red eye.I am sure I only planted one hibiscus in that spot.

Roberta, I surely hope you get an answer. In 89, I bought either Southern or Disco Belle from Parks SEeds. I cannot recall which..I started indoors, then placed out that summer..Leaves are huge, three to four times the size of tropical hibiscus and flowers are red 12-14" wide..Does this sounds like either of yours? If yours flowers this year, save the seeds and plant them. They won't all come true but some of them will likely be like the parent...

Garden Hut has them but they are currently out os stock. They had them earlier this year, so by fall, they will probably have them again.

Try Park Seed, they are offering the white Disco Belle seeds for $3.50 a pack.

Try the seed exchange here on the GW. They are abundant seeders and most people who have them would be glad to trade some for something you have seed on.
