Silver Maple collects water at fork - is this healthy?

Hi,

I moved into a house with a number of large silver maples that we love. Silver maples tend to have a single base that rises about 4 feet and then splits off into 3 or so large main branches. One of these maples collects several gallons of water in the crevice where all the main branches join to the main trunk. During some times of the year, it rains enough that the crevice always seems to ahve water in it. The tree seems healthy, but I'm concerned that the water could do some major damage to the tree over time, rotting the wood in the core. Is that a legit concern or am I worried for no reason? I was thinking if I could insert a drainage tube or fill the crevice with some material, that might help.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks very much.
