Clotilde Soupert (Climbing Polyantha) - white blushed lilac pink in the center; yes she balls but when this rose is "on" all you can do is stand and admire her overwhelming beauty; excellent repeat too, especially for a climber.*
Common Moss (Moss) - light pink; better flower form than General Kleber
Cramoisi Superieur (China) - red blend; smells like ripe cherries*
Deuil de Dr. Reynaud (Bourbon) - magenta; similar to Mme. Isaac Pereire but better repeat and disease resistance.*
Duchesse d'Auerstadt (Tea-Noisette) - soft golden yellow; more disease resistant than Celine Forestier
Duchesse de Brabant (Tea) - dawn pink; quickly becoming my favorite Tea*
Great Maiden's Blush (Alba) - blush pink
La Ville de Bruxelles (Damask) - rose pink; everything a Damask ought to be.
Madame Alfred Carriere (Noisette) - big, strongly scented, fluffy white flowers on a healthy climbing plant.
Mrs. B.R. Cant (Tea) - pink blend; fanfrickentastic OGR flower form on a big, healthy bush - get it!*
Reve d'Or (Tea-Noisette) - apricot pink blend; one of the easier Tea-Noisettes to grow.
Yolande d'Aragon (Hybrid Perpetual) - rose pink; the flowers must be seen to be believed; INTENSE fragrance.

Does Climbing Clotilde Soupert ball for you? I have the shrub version which balls until fall. I also have that problem with Mrs. B. R. Cant. Could it be because I am further north than you?

I'm happy to see that I have at least some (8 total) of these roses! I am especially interested to see the recommendation of Dr. Deuil de Reynaud as a substitute for Mme. Isaac Pereire (had to scroll back up three times to get the spelling on these right!!). I will definitely check this one out.........

this is a very interesting thread, for me, as I am considering tea roses (next year) for the first time. I will get 3 - was planning on Duchesse de Brabant, Clementina Carbonieri & Francis Dubreuil; should I reconsider FD with Lady Hillingdon? Thought FD, as HMF indicates it likes partial shade. How does fragrance of LH compare with the other 3?

I can't tell any difference between MIP & DdDR.

geo_7a, Clementina Carbonieri is a beautiful rose but I hope you have a spot where she gets only morning sun. I got rid of mine, even though it was lovely, because the flowers crisped constantly in the heat and mine was in full sun all day. Other people on the forum have also mentioned this quality about CC and I thought I'd let you know to spare you disappointment. Of course, it also depends on how hot your summers are and how dry your climate is.

I was looking at both of your lists. I have all of the roses on your list as well (except Deuil de Dr. Reynaud). Do you grow these no spray? I'm growing totally no spray, and I'm wondering if I can expect such great reports when these roses mature. Some of them are already wonderful, don't get me wrong, but others are still rather small and/or somewhat less than glorious for me.

Carol - Clotilde does ball for me but not badly. You are right about the heat, which helps the petals to expand and open. I consider balling a price I'm willing to pay for such perfectly quartered flowers.

Robert - I spray a fungicide (Mancozeb) approximately once every three weeks. I do not use insecticides. Note: fungicides DO NOT kill insects and animals.

I have gone completely no spray in my mother's coastal Virginia zone 7b garden. I replaced the black spot prone modern roses with Tea, China and Shrub roses. So far the results have been mixed. The aforementioned roses have kept more of their leaves but the defoliation is still significant, which I hide with mounds of lavender. Frankly, in my own garden, I wouldn't dream of going completely no spray.

Ain't that the truth!

A couple or three years ago I SOOOO wanted 'Yolande d'Aragon' and finally bought it. Even though the plant was small and it was "further in summer than the birds," I planted it into the ground immediately. (Normally this wouldn't have been a problem with our mild winters.)
Wouldn't you know it turned out to be one of the wettest and coldest winters ever, and the area I had planted her was very low, so stayed inundated with water for weeks at a time. She didn't make it. Never even got to see/sniff one bloom.

Might try again. I seem to remember it being quite thorny though? (Been steering clear of the thorny ones lately.)

Thanks for the advice on Clementina - I'll try a different spot, which also means I might be able to get by next year buying 7 or 8 roses (instead of 10).
