I don't know much but what about trailing soapwort, million bells, cypress vine, dusty miller, purple shamrocks,fushcias, black eyed susan vine, dwarf snapdragons, trailing lobelia, dichondra, sweet pea, browallia?

there is also bidens, verbenas, diascas, bacopa,lapis spernum, creeping zinnias. but they tend to try to take over.(the zinnias) you can do impatian baskets with lobelia and bacopa. they turn out gorgeous! creeping charlie, jenny, and the silver one that i can't think of the name. also vinca looks great in hanging baskets. nemesia, niembergia. where i work we do mixed geranium baskets and intermix all of the above. not zonal geraniums. 3 geraniums and then 3 of whatever you choose. if i could figure out how to post pics i would show you one we did.

j4ck...thanks for posting this. I have a new Hayrack that I have to fill next year and I haven't even started thinking about what to put in it. Mine faces east and will get morning sun and then be in the shade most of the day.

j4ck, think about sticking a couple of strawberries in - causes people to do a double take (plus, you get a few berries).

Nope, and the idea isn't even mine. I saw it done at a local nursery years ago and tried it when I had strawberries creeping all over the place.

Purple basil adds a nice contrast in containers too with it's dark foilage. Plus it also gives a little height.
