Whew, I thought I was already running late!! Mind you, my husband just planted a 4-pack of broccoli and a 4-pack of cabbage, but those are really for the winter birds (mostly goldfinches) that frequent our feeders. We have found that they like the broccoli leaves - they won't eat the broccoli, just the leaves; and the cabbage seems to do well over the cold season. He also planted some chives and some lettuce; let's see how they fare. We keep a veggie patch going most of the year - but the extreme drought this year made it hard this year for us to get much out of it, even tho we have an automatic watering setup on the thing. It was just TOO hot!! Surprisingly, our tomato plants, bell pepper plants, and jalapeno plant are still alive, and they're starting to set fruit again!! They're so confused, and I don't blame them. I doubt if the fruit will mature.

For what it's worth, my records show that I usually WS marigolds in mid to late March, although one year I did them in mid-February. I say "for what it's worth" because I don't have much rhyme or reason to my WSing. I don't usually start till late January, even early February, and while I do WS my perennials first, after that, it's just a kind of looking in the seed box on any particular day and thinking, hmm, what do I feel like sowing? I do WS first things that are known to be good reseeders, so I will take that into account. But except for vegetables, which I do in late March to April, I don't usually intentionally hold off on things. I just sow what I feel like sowing that day. The great thing is that it still works for me. The funny thing is that in most areas of my life I tend to overthink things. Never really did that with WSing, and that's been a wonderful thing for me (both the actual WSing and the results, and the fact that it works without thinking too much, lol!) Mary, look at wintersown.org. Also, lots of people here list the seeds they have sown. Look at the seed exchange and the wintersowing exchange (part of this forum) - lots of people trade seeds and many people list that they will send seeds for a SASBE or BEAP (both of these mean a bubble envelope with postage). I have offered some seeds for trade on the wintersowing exchange and there is a new swap listed over there, too. It is a fun way to get new seeds without spending much money. Welcome to wintersowing! Even in zone 5, i would wait to start broccoli and cabbage. I start mine in April - you could maybe do it a month earlier.
