Wheel Horse 312-8 (hours gauge)

Just purchased a 312-8 today. Looks as though there are only 347 hours on it, but it's hard to read because the numbers are not exactly straight across. I remember from way back that people used to turn back the odometers in cars. Would one be bothered to do this to a tractor? Looks as though it was owned by an irresponsible idiot, but runs well, starts right up, and seems to be a strong-running machine. It needs to be tinkered with and a few odds and ends replaced. The oil was black so changed that right away.

Also, can someone suggest the best place to find manuals? It came with none.
