John Deere X300 belt breakage

Has anyone here had problems with frequent belt breakage on the John Deere X300?

I'm on my second belt in 3 months of normal usage. I've traced the problem to the fact that the leveling adjustment bolt that hangs down from the chassis is right next to the path of the belt such that the belt frequently rubs against it. I have tried every adjustment in the user manual to no avail. I have even cut off a portion of that bolt in an attempt to keep it from rubbing against the belt, but there's only so much I can cut off before I affect the leveling system adversely. It still touches the belt.

It can't be just me that is having this problem, right? They're all built by the same robots and/or people in the factory in exactly the same way. I'm just trying to think of all the ways the John Deere dealership will try to blame me for how this is happening.

It's a mower. This is 2008. A bolt intruding in the path of the belt is just plain unreasonable. That's my feeling on the matter.

Any ideas?

Thanks.
