Fouled Spark Plugs-Seeing many

I am seeing more and more fouled spark plugs on all types of equipment. I suppose it is gasoline we are now using. What are your thoughts? My solution is to purchase a plug with one or two hotter heat ranges. That appears to cure the problem. This is happening in older equipment where it has never been a problem.

Remember the difference in a hot plug and a cold plug is the shape of the plug tip and how far it protrudes into the combustion chamber.

I am now using a "trick" that my dad used 40 years ago to burn off the excess material that is fouling the plug. That is: hold the connector to the plug cap an 1/8 inch or so off the plug connection and it will usually fire. I suppose this lets the voltage build up to a higher voltage, before it jumps the 1/8 inch gap and then it will jump/fire the plug. It works for me, and I don't have to change the plug so often.
