The Soil Conservancy here sells seedling trees and shrubs to fight erosion and so on. This is high desert, 13" annual moisture is normal, but we''re now in an extended drought. They have run extensive tests on what works the best. They recommend tilling the soil, planting the seedling with a very slow (like 2 years) release fertilizer, putting a 4 to 6 foot ring of woven black polypropylene weed barrier, and then a 4 foot high protective, 6" diameter translucent 'mini-greenhouse' staked around the tree. The seedlings sell for peanuts. By the time you put down the weed barrier, add the fertilizer and the mini-greenhouse, it increases the cost significantly. I was skeptical at first. 10 years later, I am now convinced they're right.

I find that many times when someone thinks someone else is not being polite on here, they're just not familiar with the way that person writes/expresses themselves. I know of at least three people on here that are routinely accused of being impolite, but are really really good people (at least I think they are). All three of them just try to give good advice the best way they can, but do so in individualistic ways that some people take wrong. I'm sure that everyone writes things, at times, that they don't realize how it sounds until later on. It's part of life on the internet. Krycek1984, your fairly new around here and I know you've had a couple of run-ins with people, but I bet, if you stick around, you will find that even those people are really generally pretty friendly once you get to know them. Horticultural knowledge on Gardenweb ranges from contributors with world-wide renowned expertise (really, I'm not exaggerating) to complete beginners with their own strange ideas (lol). Once you get to know who's who and how people express themselves, you'll feel more and more at home (hopefully, at least).

Maybe I'm misreading something, but I draw the opposite conclusion. 30 seconds of "shower" is not really watering, it's wetting the surface down. What should be happening is weekly heavy waterings, followed by a period of no water. Thus, if rainfall would be heavy somewhere within that week-and I do mean heavy, not a five-minute downpour-you may not need to water at all during that week. But if it's hot, dry and/or windy, it could require more. Only manually checking the soil moisture status has any meaningful bearing on this. I think your plants are grossly desiccated.

not great time for transplanting.. it is rather stressed ... so its got some yellow leaves .. so what.. vast majority are still green but a bit limp .. thats pretty much a WIN .... you disrupted the roots... so its not uncommon it cant pump enough water to fill them up completely ... if you could rig some temporary shade it would help ... it will take this tree 2 to 3 years to become fully established ... you are responsible for all PROPER water this year.. and in drought next year ... and it should be rather free range after that... next tree.. do not amend the planting hole .. but what is done is done ... see primer below on tree planting ... its stressed.. not hungry.. no fert until fall ... if ever.. imo.. trees never need to be fed ... my number one recommendation is to dig small holes to find out about water at depth.. so good for you ... that you already did such .....let it near dry in between good watering ... it can only pump so much.. so rotting the roots off isnt going to help .... more water isnt going to do any more than it is .... i have no clue what 10 mins of water means.. that is for you to figure out.. like you are ... i hope there is no landscape fabric under the rocks.. or what i think is red mulch ... i would have gone with uncolored mulch.. so it fades to grey to match the rock .. but its your choice .... and lastly .. at the link.. section 1..
