Ummm...I don't actually know anything about larkspur, I'm planning to grow it for the first time this year, but I've been curious for a while now about what ISO means? I've seen it in the heading of several of your posts, and I can't figure out what it stands for, and that is driving me crazy.

I picked up a few packs of larkspur seeds at homedepot, ive never grown them either but they sure look pretty! I hope someone can help you Pam! :) I was thinking theyd look pretty near my roses.

Companies often have their own names for seeds but plants/flowers might look identical. I'd just jump in and try any one- you can't go wrong. I'd also direct sow now. Let them drop seeds naturally and you'll likely have them forever. Year-to-year they cross pollinate and colors change each year.

I love the gentian blue from T&M. They're shorter but such a pretty clear sky blue. Here's a shot of mine from a few years ago

Larkspurs are in the same family as the delphinium? Are they difficult to grow? Karen, those are beautiful!

Larkspur is an annual delphenium. They're super easy to grow, especially through direct sowing in the fall. You can still sow them now. They'll germinate when the time is right. Fall sown seed might bloom a bit earlier as they've had time to grow through the winter during warm spells. Here are some I sowed back in the fall. They're hanging on just fine. There's also red clover in there.

KCQ, those flowers are very pretty. I WSed some Larkspur 'Frosty Skies' from Diane's seeds last year, had great germination, but then when I transplanted them out to the garden the slugs ended up eating them all. :(

Karen: Thanks for the link. I've spent so much time (and $$) at valueseeds recently, I can't believe I missed those seeds. Your photos are lovely. Do the larkspur reseed on their own? Or, do you help?

I'll order whatever I can find (the taller ones look purple to me) and see what looks best. Since I'm new to WS, this is like a big science experiment. Very fun!

Karen, I love that gentian blue. I saw the pic at your link sometime back, and wasnt thrilled.. But yours looks beautiful. I am trying to get more blue in my beds as well. Guess I am going back to valueseeds.

Another great blue is the annual Forget Me Not. It reseeds well for me. Dollar General has them 3/$1. Buy a lot. There aren't many in the packs.

Token: I'm away, visiting family in Northern VA but will come home on Monday. Does Dollar General have seeds already?

Ours does. I haven't checked the varieties yet, but probably will in another week or so.
