Japanese Maple - Beat up by cold snap

I planted this young tree late last fall at my Central KY home in front of my new house. It looked GREAT in full bloom on April 1st. I was so proud of it. I had given it 10-10-10 fertilizer 2 weeks prior to this picture:

Then nearly a couple weeks later we went from obscene 80 degree weather to below freezing for at least a week.

On May 1st my tree now looks like this:

Is my tree a goner? The bark at the 'trunk' is still green and I have been watering, but those upper branches are yellowish and look dry as a bone. I tried the fingernail scratch test and it's woody, though admittingly my fingernails are very short. I see at most 3 buds that hadn't opened prior to the cold snap. Should I expect any leaves at all this spring/summer? I don't want to give up hope, but am worried. This was my first planted tree as a new homeowner.
