Thank you for the info guy's, Has anyone ever dealt with TurfTractor.com before ??? I called the number on the link from rcbe and spoke to a guy, he was cussing like a sailor and was really quite unprofessional, seemed kind of shady to me. just wondering if anyone knows of or has dealt with them. He said he has the clutch for $279.00 but I dont know about this guy. anyway's, thanks again guy's.

I have 3 different styles of electric clutch that I will take $100 ea. for plus shipping. They are brand new, never used, not in a box and I don't know off hand what the model numbers are. They are all for 1" shaft. One is a double pulley and I will have to measure the pulley size for all, I think they are the same OD though. I can look on the clutches and see if there is a name and model number tomorrow IF interested.

I do not have a digital camera so can't post a picture until I can find someone to take a picture.

Hi, I helped a friened change one,(he diagnosed) turned out the old one was fine. the battery was bad, and needed a jump to start, and the alternator did not output enough power to engage the clutch, he waste about $200 if i recall, make sure the battery /. connections are good.

I never heard of them before I saw this link here, but they sure have a good selection of parts.

They sell on Ebay too, so maybe a look at their feedback will give you some input as to their reliability.

If Foley Belsaw can cross reference a part they are reliable - I have dealt with them for years.

I had a pto clutch go bad on my John Deere. Was going to replace it and stumbled across a procedure for adjusting the gap. Turns out the clearance was to great for the magnet to engage the clutch. I'll have to check the manual, but it seems to me the air gap at all three points around the PTO should be .030" gap.

No, it's about .010-.012

air gap can also be brand-specific. For instance, Ogura adj. types:
"There are three inspection slots on the brake cover. With a feeler gauge of between .013-.015 for clutches used on 25 horsepower and under, and .015-.022 for clutches used on 25-31 horsepower, tighten each nut down until slight contact is felt on the feeler gauge. Once all three are finished, go back and check the air gap (occasionally some minor adjustment will be required)".
A number of models are non-adjustable - best to find out what yer specific clutch type and mfgr is and ck their website for gap info... IMHO.

Another facet of operation when an electric PTO is present: Your electrical system had better be charging correctly and the battery be in good condition. Low system voltage can make the PTO reluctant to engage, especially if the air gap has grown too large. Low system voltage might occur if you try to engage the PTO at low engine speeds. If you crank the engine, then try to engage the PTO immediately, at low engine RPM........the system might have low voltage. The battery may have gotten a bit discharged since you last used the machine, then you operate the starter to crank the engine (more discharge), then you run the engine at low RPM where the alternator output is weak............at this point, the system voltage can be too weak for dependable engagement of the PTO clutch. Not saying this is your problem, just saying that sometimes "a result" (non engagement PTO), can have more than one specific cause. Even if you have read this before, it never hurts to have a refresher.

Thanks again guy's, but it's not the air gap or the electrical system. Well, I believe it "WAS" the electrical system that caused it, but I have fixed that problem. I got the tractor from a friend who was going to "part it out". he had "The guy down the street" do some electrical work on it and he wired it all wrong (very lucky there wasn't more damage). When I removed the pto clutch, the electrical windings were black, broken and falling out in pieces. The tractor is in such immaculate shape for it's age that when he said he was going to part it out I thought he was crazy. I got the tractor for $150. Anyway's, I rewired it all correctly and it purrs like a kitten and runs great, I just need the pto clutch. I wish I new how to add a picture to show you this $150 WheelHorse.

So Walt, can you check the numbers on those pto's this one is WARNER 5215-16. Also does anyone know if any of these pto clutches interchange ???
