Those buds don't appear to be RRD, it looks like cold damage. I get that on a lot of my roses in early spring and fall.

The mosaic pattern could be rose mosaic virus, but I'm not sure.

The new growth in the first picture appears normal to me.

Don't do anything until Ann responds. But I really don't think it's RRD based on these pictures.

Nothing on this post is scary to me. I think Pink Pet looks like typical buds and formation.

Fourth picture is classical rose mosaic virus (RMV), nothing to do with rose rosette (RRD). Red growth on the first and second picture is just normal new basals. Red color is normal. deformed flower is proliferation, again nothing to worry about.
Nothing really bad on your pictures, except mosaic virus. You can shovel prune this bush or keep it. It is your call. I personally don't keep roses with RMV, but many people do. There is a controversial information on the possibility of RMV transfer from plant to plant.

Let the red growth be...compare the leaf edges...the red growth here looks ok and the leaf edges don't have the pattern of the ones in part one of your post.
On the deformed buds...something's wrong. The pattern of what blooms when isn't right. But I don't have any blooms at that stage to compare it to. What bothers me is that roses do candelabras of buds and the outermost blooms first, THEN the next ones grow forward and bloom, and then the third ones. For some reason, this spray is rushing things. And the bloom is getting overwhelmed. I'd cut it off low and watch.
The vein clearing pattern is one of the symptoms of Rose Mosaic Virus (it is the definition of vein clearing.)
It's normal for Pink Pet to make those huge masses of bloom.
Back to the buds....If you cut one off and shake it over a piece of white paper, do most of the thrips in South Carolina fall out? That the buds have normal repro parts argues for the problem not being RRD.

Thanks everybody. I really am just freaking out here. It looks like you are all agreeing on a reprieve. Like I mentioned before, I missed the first infection and it got to be very, very obvious, so I'm hypervigilant at the moment. I was ready to tear all these bushes out earlier tonight!

I'm going to cut off all the weird candelabras (except on Pink Pet) and watch.

Spider Mites are possible--they are always a problem here. I can usually see a brown speck or two in the flower when I have thrips. I haven't tried the paper test, but will tomorrow.

A few RMV questions--this is the first sign on this rose at year 5 of growth. I was under the impression that RMV was either there from the start, or not--in other words not contagious. Wouldn't this mean I bought it with RMV? Should I contact the vendor? I bought all my Belinda's Dream shrubs at once, so will the others be likely to have it eventually? Finally, is RMV systemic, meaning that pruning off the affected canes will do no good?

I was always under the impression that RMV takes awhile to become evident...and there is conflicting thoughts on whether it is contagious or not..and I don't think pruning the affected parts will help it is systemic...
It wouldn't hurt to talk to the place where you got them...

Gosh, all looks normal and I think the bloom is probably cold weather but it could be aphids and/or spider mites. Lots of crazy things going on this year with such a cool spring. I think your red growth looks normal but then maybe mine was so deformed that most things look normal to me, but this does not look like RRD to my eye.

Yes, you do have some RMV in one of them. I have Elina's with RMV and it only shows up in cool of spring and otherwise, the leaves look perfectly normal and the plants are so big and the blooms so wonderful, I just cannot bring myself to be without it, especially since I hear all Elina's have RMV.

Looks like an advance stage of Mosaic virus. Usually it started off with a faint zig-zaggy pattern that "comes and goes" during the growing season. 4 out of 11 roses I have are infected with MV.

I had those "deformed buds" last spring. Just leave them alone and see whether they open up. Most likely they will opened up, but the flowers would not look perfect.
Best to cut those buds off and hoping for a new sets of buds to form. If the new sets of buds appear deformed again, then you will have to spray your rose completely with a fungicide. I don't like spraying but I have no choice because if I don't spray on Falstaff and A shropshire Lad, they will end up with those miserable deformed buds.Fungicide works for me when you spray the buds that are new and unopened.

You know what's funny? I bought my Belinda's Dream as some of my first roses and put them in front of the house because they are Earthkind and I thought they'd be fairly trouble free. I actually have more problems with deformed and spotted blooms on them than with any other rose in my garden! My Austins are perfect. Of course, they're all on the side of the house because I was anticipating trouble.

Man, for a while I freaked out at every red shoot that appeared- until it slowly dawned on me that in a garden of Teas and Chinas red new growth is absolutely normal. And Duchesse de Brabant is *supposed* to have wavy leaves.

Unfortunately all sorts of critters can deform buds and blossoms, so I wouldn't panic just yet. Thrips in particular are weird- they can massacre one bush and leave the one beside it completely alone.

Odyssey -- this is probably because they have the underlying condition of RMV. It tends to take otherwise good roses and make them weaker in various ways. If you have one with RMV and they all came from the same vendor its possible they all have it. RMV can be hard to see on roses and may only be visible in spring. You should probably call the vendor and let them know when you purchased the roses--hopefully they have caught it by now as well.

Well, I e-mailed the vendor the RMV leaves picture and inquired whether she had any RMV problems with this variety. She said that her Belinda's Dream are from virus-free stock and that she feels sure chelated iron will take care of the problem. I'd have thought of this if the veins were still green, but yellow veins? I've never encountered that before. What to think?!

I'm not at all convinced that is RMV. The yellow veining is too consistent. I suggest you get a soils test. There are a couple of nutritional deficiencies that can cause yellow veins.
