Annual sweet pea (Lathyrus odoratus) is the scented one, but the perennial sweet pea (Lathyrus latifolius) does not have much scent as far as what I've heard. I think the perennial one is more invasive also. I've read about soaking the seeds in water, but haven't heard about soaking them in a tea solution...I'll look into that too... Today I found that link I was looking for about making newspaper pots (posted by sewobsessed, thank you!) so I think I'll try that for the sweet pea seeds.

Some azaleas are deciduous azaleas. Not all are evergreen azaleas. Do you know the variety? It is early for deciduous azaleas to loose their leaves so that probably isn't what is happening. Some azaleas, especially deciduous azaleas, have fall colors for the foliage that range from orange to bronze. This is touted as a feature rather than a problem. There are many other causes for azalea leaves to turn brown. If the plant is dying, normally the leaves turn yellow, droop, curl up, and then turn brown. If the leaves look normal except they are turning brown, then it may be normal. Yellowing and dropping of leaves is normal toward the end of the second summer on the small-leaved lepidote rhododendrons. These should have dense enough habit that this doesn't matter. The larger-leaved elepidote rhododendrons keep their leaves for 3 or 4 seasons. Like all evergreen plants, rhododendrons and azaleas periodically lose some of their foliage, and the leaves may turn yellow, red, or purple before they fall. Often the only leaves that remain are those that surround the flower buds at the tips of the branches. This characteristic is linked to the genetics of the parents used to breed garden azaleas. The degree of leaf coloration or loss is a function of parentage and not the severity of the winter. In unusually cold winters, certain azaleas may lose more leaves than they would in mild winters.

Mary Lu, it was down to 28F. here last night. I didn't cover anything because it's been dry this week. My tomatoes, which are planted out, are a little darker green because of the cold but there was no frost so they didn't melt down like a frost will do to them. Roses, peonies, daylilys all came through fine and most of them are just sitting here in plastic grocery bags. If we get frost warnings I cover as much as I can and scootch things still in pots or whatever as close to the foundation as I can to help protect things. Cover what you can and pray for the best. Usually perennials that come up early do fine with a few light frosts. Pretty much like in the early fall. Best Wishes! MeMo

Hi Albert...I am in Louisville KY also. I actually have not pruned my roses yet. Glad I didn't`t since we have had such cold temps this past week. Seil gave you great advice.I`m not sure if we can get blooms much before mid May here. I also use rose-tone and I add Monty`s to my fungicide every two weeks. When our temps warm up and the soil gets warmer, you could add more nitrogen if you think it needs it. I am NO expert. Just grow 130 roses cause I love them. I hope you will share pictures of your roses when you get blooms. I know they will be lovely.
