JD X300R Tractor

I just bought a JD X300R after 4 years with a JD LT 110 although the same horse power as the Kohler 17hp the power seems alot more with the Kawa 2 cyl. and the transmission gearing seem to work better. I do like the Turbo star rear discharge deck and not having to dump the bags any more. Does anyone have any comments on this new JD model.

I just bought a X300 myself. I just returned a new Craftsman DYS4500 that lost a tranny after 2 mows. I am absolutely in love with this John Deere X300. I am astounded at how well it drives compared to the rickety Craftsman. And the cut it amazing in comparison.

With the Craftsman, I had to worry about bolts falling out at random the first two mows, and the frame creaked and sounded like it was going to give out. My only concern now is "do I have it at full throttle?" b/c the Kawasaki is so darned quiet and smooth. My 25hp Craftsman would almost not make it up a slight hill I have, and the 17hp X300 will pop wheelies up the hill.

I am a Deere customer for life now. I am glad I bought the Craftsman b/c if it hadn't broken on me, I'd have never stepped up to the X series.

It's kind of like Harley riders say "If you have to ask, you won't understand." If people really want to know the difference in tractors, they have to look farther than websites and specs, they need to test drive (which I understand can't be done on a Sears).

"If I hold the throttle linkage (governor) at full throttle, the engine will run smoothly. I almost want to just duct tape it in place and call it a day." Valid thought but it will not work out well. Assuming your governor is functioning properly taping it in place would cause the engine to bog down when it hit a load. The RPM's would drop when you engage the blades and drop more when the blades hit the grass with no way for the engine to pull the RPM's back up. From your original post....."The engine runs, but the throttle cycles between high and low throttle. (Governor??) The throttle mechanism is moving on its own." Is this still the case with this engine with no improvement? Does it cycle up and down at an idle as well as at full throttle? I wish I had that carb for about 5 minutes..... Mike

Buy it from the dealer and give your business to the little guy... This gives you an oppty to see who your GOING TO BE DEALING WITH - and hopefully get your relationship off on the right foot. If you dont like who your going to be dealing with - then you might want to consider other brands... Im very lucky in the sense my local JD guy helps me with my engine parts for my Sears, Ingersoll and an old Bolens. Oh yeah - and you can never have enough free hats. good luck.

You've just done your own battery load test - and it failed. Replace the battery. Use good battery common sense with this tractor or you will damage the ECU which is another 100$ out of pocket. Clean and protect the terminals before tightening them. Your multimeter can tell you if you have a draw on the system, if the charging system is putting out DC into the system rather than AC. Should you ever need to jump start, keep the ground attachment at a clean point on the engine block or frame.

Hello Hantra, If you have the throttle pushed all the way forward then you are at full throttle, I guess there is a rev limiter on the engine but I know it is hard to believe due the quiet engine !!!

glenn---good luck with the X300R...I got the X304 back in May...love it to...but do yaself a favor...stay away from them there Harleys...they'll beat ya to death at every stop light, and JD has a better warranty...( no offense metal)..

Hi Guys Just took delivery on a new x300r. I'm so glad to hear how much you like yours. It's winter here in RI, so I've never used mine. I bought based on JD's reputation and the fact that my lawn is loaded with trees, twigs acorns other tree junk and lots and lots of leaves. It seemed the grass catcher designs on other mowers left a lot to be desired, kind of an after thought. Where the r seems designed to really do a job on all my tree stuff. I also got the first tractor shovel delivered in the country, all because of info on this site. Right now I'm waiting to use my new snow plow. I hope I like this stuff as much as you do. I have really enjoyed reading your comments.
