Oil spilled all over when lifting rider

The rider was out of position when checking on axle problem and lifted front end up. So, oil drained to back of mower and everywhere it seems. I've cleaned almost all of it...took filter off and cleaned and dried. For last three days, I've tried to start and end up flooding. Something is still plugged. I changed out the spark plug..the old one was black. It almost wants to fire over and was very healthy before. Still waiting on axle ordered. Rider, is still out in yard and want to pull it into garage. What next?

If you're talking about the air filter, you don't clean and dry them if they are soaked with oil! You toss them and get a new one.
Try starting with filter off.

Please reveal more details of just how this calamity occurred. Is this a Snapper rear engine riding mower? Did you have it on it's side or standing on it's rear end? Was it standing on it's front end? Was it upside down, I mean downside up?

Having dealing with diesel or fuel oil for many years, there is no simple answer. Used fuel oil (diesel) for heating and sometimes Dawn soap will remove the fuel. I even had a cat fall into some oil, and used dishwashing (not for dishwasher) boy was she an unhappy cat: thought we would lose her as it is fatal to breath and drink. I would replace the carpet and then talk to a place that cleans the big rigs--a regular truck washing place. Talk to big rig drivers, or contact someplace like "Flying J truck stops. There are producds to absorb the diesel but these would be hard to use under your conditions. You probably will always have a slight smell, especially under heat.

Groomingal! Just an note to thank you for your advice for my oil spill on the chair. I used some WD-40 very sparingly on the cushion after using some foam cleaner that did not work. The WD-40 was just so-so.The best solution was continually cleaning and blotting with a little detergent and water over and over. It would leave rings so I had to keep rinsing with clear water- but eventually the spot has faded until it's barely visable. I know it's there ( you know how that is-lol!) but the casual glance shows a good cushion. Thank goodness it's a sturdy woven fabric! IF it had been a chintz, velvet, leather or similar it would have been toast! Thanks so much for taking the time to help me out. Here's the thing, if the spill isn't properly cleaned up and CERTIFIED, you may have problems when you go to sell. Please contact your state EPA, and find out what the regulations are on this kind of situation. We bought a house that had an outside oil tank removed years ago. We had to require testing and a certification from the sellers that the ground was clean. And we've been told to guard that paper with our lives because we WILL NOT be able to sell without it. Do not buy with the understanding that it's okay, and you'll do the work--you could find down the road that you've made an extremely expensive mistake. You are, however, going to have to research the rules, regs and laws for YOUR state and community--and then hope that they don't change over the years to come. Good luck. And don't forget--the seller's finances/foreclosure issues are NOT your responsibility--your safety and future financial solvency are the only things you should be concerned about at this point. Don't make exceptions or concessions when those things could cost you hundreds of thousands of $$$ down the road.

I did end up using an empty cardboard OJ container to dispose of it and my conscience is reasonably clear LOL! I figure even the waxy plastic cardboard will SOMEDAY break down and the oil is veg based (canola) so that shouldn't hurt anything either. I can't imagine pouring it on a rose bush though.... I would think that would really throw the natural organisms off balance in the soil, not to mention changing the ability of the soil to drain/retain moisture. However, if someone had told me 10 years ago to feed my plants alfalfa, I would have thought they were nuts too, so maybe this is a live and learn thing. Anyway, thanks for all the creative solutions. I will certainly put them to use next Fathers Day when we ahve the next big catfish fry! LOL! Alexa

Someone lifted front end up and while holding (balancing on back tires) to look at axle.....oil was flowin (noticed after).

Yes, I am getting a new filter tomorrow. The guy that was originally going to replace axle, has super busy schedule and can't do it this weekend. I will have place I ordered part come and pick up now. I live in the country, and I got a field goin on.....yikes. I am also gonna see if I can find someone/company to come and cut grass due to
3-week waiting list at shop.

I tried starting with filter and housing off and no luck. Still cranks. I put in "N" and tried pushing and the tires rub against the body....can't win.

Funny word that 'calamity'.....ha.

What "rider" are we talking about? What brand and model of engine?

What happened to the front axle? What happened that caused the rear tires to rub?

I'm just guessing but I'll bet the front axle problem and the rear tires rubbing are somehow related to the recent engine trouble. The link may just turn out to be that you're using the machine beyond it's capabilities and/or not maintaining it properly.

would'nt touch this with a ten foot pole---but if I had a twenty foot pole, I'd say "new tractor comes to mind."
