A Rose for a Difficult Spot

Hi Everyone;

I have a spot in the garden that is stoney, fairly shady and the ground is hard. It is also about 15 feet from a large maple tree. Other plants (admittedly aggressive ones) grow there, including Solomon's Seal, cornflowers, Kerria, false-sunflowers and lupins. Looking at the spot this spring, I realize that it needs some colour (other than green) and would love to put a rose with bright colour, like red/orange/yellow, in the spot. Already growing a few feet away is a large Snowgoose rose bush that my neighbor dug up and gave to me a couple of years ago. It has done well, so I am assuming another rose might be able to live there too.

Any suggestions for another rose that might do well in a difficult spot? It can be large or small, doesn't really matter, and single or double is fine, too. It will not get pampered or mulched in the winter, so it has to be hardy. So...is there a rose for this spot?
