At the local Snapper dealer I bought a container (plastic bottle) of ALCO Super Lube "00" Grease for my RER and the dealer gave me a few plugs without cost. I'm guessing that the "00" grease is available from a number of places, perhaps auto parts store, Lowes or Home Depot as well as mower shops. On another blog site, an "expert" said to make sure that the "00" grease is of good quality. I have see blog responses mentioning Shell and Lubriplate manufacturers. I may have able to get the grease for a lesser price but I chose to continue to have some dealings with the mower shop.

I have never replaced one of these that is not to say one might not need replacing as any thing can be defective or damaged. From your description, I would not be concerned about it. I have on rare occasion put one in my metal turning lathe and faced it when it had deep grooves worn in it, that is the cast aluminum ones, I don't know and can't tell from the numbers what year yours is, it may have the newer steel faced drive plate. Well if it is moving OK when the engine is running but won't when the engine is not running, you really are not getting it in the right place. Some of the old ones had a Neutral/Park AND a roll position. IF it is a really old one, there is a finger that comes over against the side of the rubber drive wheel. Try moving the shifter lever in different positions between 1st and notch which I think you are calling neutral but may actually be Park. It should be easy enough to just stand the thing up and see what is going on. Walt Conner

If you are worried about scalping, the Snapper RER's may not be for you. The way the frame pivots they are better for really flat properties. Also the front wheels push pretty bad on anything but the slowest turns, so the turning radius you will see is much larger than stated in literature. Also the small wheels will bounce you around if you have many bumps. The Hi-Vac is only available in 28" and 33". I am guessing most of the side-discharge models sold are the 42" model (they want the extra width).
