Yellow sedum reflexum (need help identifying cultivar)

Hello,

Today I received cuttings off of a cultivar of sedum reflexum from a friend. The foliage is bright yellow, and that's all I know. Any ideas on what cultivar this might be??

Sounds like 'Angelina'. It's a great plant!

If it is 'Angelina' (I agree, a great plant!), then it is a cultivar of Sedum rupestre. Do a Google search to confirm.

Well, back to problems again. On Friday I found that the plant needed water so bad that the leaves, which ordinarily point upwards, had flattened out. I watered, and they sprung up within a couple of hours. However, yesterday there were 15 leaves that had turned yellow that I pulled. Today there were 10 more. In the past, when the plant needed water, it would actually tip over from the soil in the pot being too light. Even then, it would only lose a couple of leaves. It seems like this is more than just needing water. Or is it still stressed? I know I am. I pulled it away from the window since temperatures outside have dropped, but it's been by the window in the winter the last couple of years. It's now lost over 125 leaves. The new growth isn't keeping up, so it's looking thin. Help!

"yellow sedum" is not all that descriptive and could mean many species or cultivaes, since there are so many. It may or may not be, sedums have not been particularly fast compared to some other plants I have grown (succulents like sedums photosynthesize differently [CAM] than most other common plants, and that method in general makes succulents, as a rule, slightly slower but sedums still spread a good deal faster than some, and can even be the exception to the rule) but they are tough, long lived, drought tolerant, and beautiful so if you like the plant you should get it regardless. It will likely spread if it is the type that does so... Go for it.

Spot-on! It had me fooled because it's more lush than I expected from Crystal Palace. Amazing that this cultivar was first introduced in the 1860s, and still going strong today. Thanks!

Thanks Jalcon and Ken for you help. Ken, is the winter burn preventable, or is it just a fact of life that will correct itself once established with new growth? I have three spots in full sun for these, but will probably start with just one to see how it survives and if the deer will leave it alone. I've had success with Bobbex deer repellent on peiris and some other shrubs. I will try it with this tree too. May look at some other evergreen to fill the last two spots. I've been eyeing picea orientalis 'firefly', but still not able to stomach the high cost. I haven't had the best luck finding a good local selection of the less typical evergreens.

gardengal, are S. reflexum and S. rupestre not one and the same? My source (see link) indicates S. reflexum to be the current correct nomenclature. Of course, that can change tomorrow! ;)

cpg, I guess they ARE synonymous :-) I have only known this species by the name rupestre but I see both are accepted. Excuse the unnecessary clarification.

btw, it is interesting to note that the cultivar 'Angelina' is protected under COPF, the Canadian plant protection agency, which restricts unlicensed propagation. Since this plant propagates extremely easily from any small broken bit, I'd guess monitoring this would be a tad difficult! We had rampant patches of it growing in pure gravel under the nursery tables at my former nursery.
