If the foliage is quite different from Iceberg, maybe the cutting you took was actually from a rootstock sucker of the variety Ragged Robin. Look it up at HelpMeFind.

If it has Iceberg foliage, it is a sport or mutation of Iceberg. A hot pink one has occurred before, but I forget the name.

After tucking the Iceberg propagated stems into the huge planter, I was sooo excited when I saw all the tiny, new little shoots and leaves of the Iceberg popping through.
I know my White Iceberg like the palm of my hand so I can tell the leaves of the new Iceberg is the same, or at least, the same looking at it with a naked eye.
Should I be looking more closely for differences in the leaves...like maybe with a lupe to see any tiny differences?

Seeing the Iceberg fill out so quickly and the JC bud so fast, I could hardly wait to have all the large Joseph's Coat roses against a background of white. *sigh*

The deep, hot pink has entwined itself so much with the JC that separating them at this point, I'd lose a lot of color, not to mention, a lot of plant! LOL

I was just totally mystified at what happened and being rather new to Roses, I thought maybe someone, a neighbor, played a silly trick on me. LOL

My family goes out into the yard and they all seem thrilled to see the blast of different colors all in one place so maybe it doesn't look so thrown-together after all?

Here is Brilliant Pink Iceberg but apparently not the same. You might have a worthwhile sport.

So I guess you have ruled out Ragged Robin, which is about that color.

I am posting a pic of an almost full arbor with the Iceberg, in March of 2009...solid white roses with a tinge of yellow after they've been open a few days.

Could you direct me to a site that explains, in layman's terms, the meaning of worthwhile sport, please?
I've known my share of suckers on my Double Delight Tree but never heard the name worthwhile sport before. I'd like to learn everything I can about it.

A sport is a mutation, or spontaneous genetic change. For example, a formerly recessive gene might be switched on in a growth bud and the resulting shoot is different from the rest of the plant. Doubling in petal count, switching between climber habit and shrub habit, and color changes all happen through mutation. By "worthwhile" I meant a stable sport that is worth preserving.

I guess your Iceberg is the climber that sported from the floribunda (bush) Iceberg. Does the pink rose make climber shoots (7-10' long)?

Let's trace a little more... Burgundy Iceberg is a sport of Brilliant Pink Iceberg.

I'm here in San Diego and what you have is Dr. Huey suckers trying to take over and they do and last year a lot of my gorgeous blooms were hidden and lost by Huey so this year I got way under the roses and cut out whatever I saw and you will be amazed by the growth and beauty of my bushes. Destroy that Huey even though they look like nice plants are only trouble and bloom amazing for a short period and than boom only trouble. Look at the suckers closely and notice that it is a smoother green stem with smaller leaves and few branching out until it quickly establishes itself and grows everywhere very quickly. So get it out and watch your beautiful bushes thrive since we are going to have to water less..

It looks like Dr. Huey to me too. The key will be if it reblooms. If it doesn't, it's the good Doctor.

And I just wanted to add that your arbor is just stunning. Good work.

Would anybody describe Dr. Huey as hot pink? It is a dull crimson, maroon, in my climate.

Is that really Iceberg? Iceberg is not a climber and it has a dainty little low petal count bloom. I can't imagine Iceberg covering that arbor the way it does in the picture. A close-up of one of the white blooms would help. The white blooms in the picture look too big. I think the other one is Dr. Huey. In some of the pictures it is a Dr. Huey like darkish red. Perhaps the pink is just fading. Dr. Huey is a climber that will grow huge in the right conditions so I would think it could easily dominate Iceberg.

I have Dr. Huey from the roots of a rose I dug up and moved. In my yard it's a purplish red to medium purple. I'm not sure if it has that many petals though.

There is an Iceberg shrub and a climber. I have the climber and it could easily cover an arbor.

I can't get a close-up picture of the white Iceberg roses beccause the Arbor has exploded in new vines and leaves ... no buds yet.

But I did take a comparison pic yesterday of the Pink Iceberg next to a couple Jasmine flowers....maybe that will help?

I've also taken pics of the main trunk of the Iceberg as it is today...and my neighbor has assured me the cuttings I took from her rose is "Iceberg Climber"....and indeed, what I got was a wonderful, fast growing, almost disease-free WHITE Iceberg Climbing Vine.
I've almost talked myself into pulling out the propagated pieces of the PINK Iceberg from the huge planter and getting them settled in another planter, not as large.
Something about the Joseph's Coat with little white roses as fill-in was in my mind's eye against the backdrop of a large TerraCotta Umbrella and white patio furniture.
Ah well....the best laid plans and all that. :)

I am hoping it's not the wrong time to pull out the PINK Iceberg and transplant it in another planter?

Thank you so very much for the compliments on my Arbor. She's one of my favorites and I tend to her daily 10 months out of the year.
Those other two months I give her a break and let her go wild. She gets it out of her system and then she's ready to be trimmed so she can produce a beautiful focal point for me. Yes, I'm obsessed and a few friends and family members think I've gone over the deep end when it comes to my gardens. :)

Transplanting roses in hot sunny weather is tricky. You would need to provide temporary shade. I'd leave one in the planter for insurance until the others are settled.

Give us an update in six months with good shots of the whole plant, foliage, and bloom. Maybe you should get a couple of experienced rosers to come look at the thing and see if you have a unique sport.

How can I thank you?

You've been so patient and you explain things in terms a nonRose pro can understand.

Never occured to me to hold one Iceberg back, as insurance, just in case.

I do have an area with just morning sun from about 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and it's shaded the rest of the time.
I also have an area with an overhead white plastic trellis that might give the Pink Iceberg just enough filtered sun until 2 in the afternoon.

Amity, 3 hours sun is not enough. I meant you should give the transplants temporary shade for a week or two, maybe a lawn chair. And you are very welcome.
