Comments (2)Sorry but with a rope holding it together, and the stated worry about it falling on the house it looks like it is time for this tree to go. But without pictures one can not say for sure. Comments (3)There are a number of borers that can infest Maple trees depending on where in the United States you are. Some are of little significance and need no action from you while others may. Have you talked with the people at your counties office of your state universities Cooperative extension Service about this? Comments (5)It looks like the stub is dying and nothing else. I'd still saw it off so the encapsulation process can start as soon as possible this spring. As it is, it's going to take a awhile and look bad the whole time. The broken branch should have been cut where the branch originated rather than leaving a stub. Comments (3)I did something similar to my Iniba Shidare. The branch I Brent was actually about 1/2" diameter and woody. I bent it slowly and staked it in stages. Took a few more then to get it to the position I wanted, and once there,left it in place for like 1.5 years. It's permanently bent like that now.....See Moretareknoor
