We're close to peak of bloom now. There are so many wonderous sights. I love climbers. Here are a few from today.

These are stunning, Pam. I've never seen a Cl. Gruss an Aachen and that is the prettiest sight. Cl. Snowbird is as beautiful as its name. I have a feeling you have many roses that many of us haven't seen or even heard about. More, please.

It makes no sense. A bean tower would be for a plant that either vines or has larger branches. What they meant by "spinach" was probably Malabar Spinach, which is a very different plant from normal spinach.

Hi, and thank you so much for all the wonderful wisdom. I planted these in April. They are going nuts. Apparently they like neglect, because theyve all but been ignored until now. I will tie them to the cable I ran and hope that it will eventually climb over itself. I really needed something to cover up the stucco wall. The house is 2 story and on a corner, so all you see is STUCCO. I have planted royal trumpets before out front, but lost them to frost. After so much time invested, I couldnt bring myself to do it again. So I figured from what I heard Lady Banks was surefire. Sure wish it was self attaching, or at least would do the coiling itself. My arms look like I was in a catfight! Thanks again, Jen

That's right Brent -- that's the garden. I was told, long, and long, and long ago that the roses were planted either for, or by, one of the Mrs. Baldwins (there were 4, but the first two don't count) OR for, or by, his daughters. If Daughters, I would say, practically-speaking, it would have been Anita Baldwin. And -- not in this case, Kim. Not unless the Icebergs were planted to replace the Austins which had not worked out well there. I'd bet money that was it. No, the old roses that were there were well-established and had been quite healthy, and that garden was lovely. Brent, do you remember the HUGE Chestnut Rose? I know there were Hybrid Musks there -- and I really can't remember what-all. I knew that place best as a child, so I really didn't know about rose names. I was fortunate, that evening when the vandal spoke to SBRS. I didn't have to lose my temper. Others present did it for me. It got quieter and quieter . . .

That is a lovely planting you have! I try to always plant one of the tricolor Sweet Potato vines, 'Ipomoea batatas'. It's green with white and purple markings. It looks great with my dark purple petunias (another plant I have to grow each year in honor of my Great-Grandmother Betty. However, it doesn't vine "up;" it trails down. I always put it in my large 24" planter, near the edge. It spreads around the pot and trails all the way to the ground. With petunias around it, and something tall on a trellis above it, it can be quite spectacular! I'm going to "harvest" the potato roots this fall and see if I can overwinter them in the basement for next year's plantings.

We don't have climbing roses in zone 5a, so that's a real treat for me. Don Juan is amazing! They all are, what a celebration of life. Thanks for posting.

Wonderful garden and gorgeous shots, Pamela! Thank you! Might you have the opportunity to shoot some foliage, wood, prickles, but and bloom comparison shots to enhance the Yellow Antique Rose thread from a few weeks back, please? Granted, Showbird has some yellow but bleaches white. But, it would be a nice comparison to see those traits from a mature Climbing Snowbird with those of the yellow antique. Thanks! Kim

These and the earlier photos are such a testament to your vision, patience and skill. Absolute inspiration.

I especially love the climbing Snowbird. Snowbird the shrub is wonderful but Snowbird the climber is sublime.

It's always a pleasure to see a well-grown 'Peace, Cl'. It's bad reputation is pervasive, but, IMO, undeserved. I've not grown the bush form for many years, but hope never to be without the climber.

Your GaA is spectacular -- and ROBUST! It's doubtful that mine will reach those proportions, but I think I must now reconsider how I've been describing its growth habits to other gardeners.

I hope you'll consider posting these fine photos on HMF -- esp. those of GaA and 'Tiffany, Cl.' Presently, photos there of those two don't illustrate their climbing potential.

Windeaux, Thank you for reminding me to go to HMF, My guess is that your Climbing Gruss an Achen will look like mine soon. Climbing Peace does have disease problems, but i don't think it's hopeless. In a mild summer it even reblooms. It really is a special thing.

Pam, what do you think of Climbing Tiffany? I was thinking of trying to mix it with a Climbing Angel Face or a Climbing Blue Girl (If I could find one).

Is it prolific??

Need I say, you have a wonderful garden! What kind of supports are you growing these on, or could they be grown freestanding? I don't have many large-flowered climbers and don't know much about them. Are yours grafted or ownroot? Thanks,
