Wow,they survived the freeze! : )

I thought the buds were hopelessly damaged on my 2 Kwanzan Cherry trees last week due to the last 2 weeks of freezing temps up here in Southwest Michigan.They had a brown color.Well by golly they survived and look absolutely beautiful today.They both are loaded with open blooms and dozens of HONEYBEES buzzing all over them.I'm a very happy dog today and it keeps my faith in nature and God where it belongs.The doom & gloom concerning nature that some people try to instill in us,either through various media with an obvious agenda or mis-guided information should be taken with a "grain of salt" as my Grandma used to say.

I'm still concerned about HONEYBEES though, and we all should be.But they are all over my trees,even my peach tree which is just starting to bud with a bloom here and there.

I'm gonna post some pics of Cherry trees later today and some closeups of the bees.

So happy to hear your good news. Your trees must have been just barely breaking dormancy when the freeze hit. If so that was a blessing and helped them to recover easier and more quickly.

My young trees were about a week or two farther along, when our freeze hit, but I am still hoping they releaf. No sign of that yet, though.

In this area the peaches were setting fruit. Most of the local growers are expecting NOTHING for this summer. I envy you the coming crop! But my blueberries seem to be fine and are beginning to bloom fully.

My brother's "Kanzan" cherry (3 mi. away) lost the top blooms and the outside ones, but I noticed today that the lower and inside ones were blooming. They must not have been open yet over Easter. The tree is almost fully leafed out.

A number of other trees down here at the foot of the moutains are almost fully leafed out, while some are still suffering and either are bare or have damaged leaves. I was afraid the Tulip poplars wouldn't flower, but, while I think the petals are smaller than usual, they are blooming. I have hopes, if only the rest of them would catch up!!!!

Thanks Anne. I'm not sure what the purple annual in the one basket is called, but the other purple annual is a heliotrope. There's also hot pink single and double million bells (calibrachoa). The only greenery I put with them is the creeping jenny, which surprised me with lovely yellow blooms mid season.

I have had lyme for over a year before I found a tick literate doctor for treatment. Half of people test negative and half don't get the rash. Most doctors will toss you off to a rheumatologist or give you 2 weeks doxycycline which does nothing. So I've basically got this thing for life and have to manage it. I've read so much on this and found all the websites and facebook pages that deal with tick illnesses. You wouldn't believe the misinfo out there, including the Center for Disease Control. This is an epidemic that is just beginning to be recognized. A task group for study has been formed, thank goodness, of experts and patients who will report to the government. Hopefully they will give this more $$ and attention than the billions spent on Zika. 300,000 people in the USA alone are diagnosed in one year with tick illnesses. Misdiagnoses include chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, ALS, multiple Sclerosis, Parkinsons, and dementia. All these illnesses have the same symptoms as tick diseases. The tests are inadequate. I could go on....retired teacher here, just wanting to educate about this, especially in the northeast. It's worldwide, very bad in Europe and Australia, too.

corkball - citrus has to have sustained temperatures below 25 to have any serious damage. It's happened in N. Florida before in the 80s, which is why there are not a lot of citrus groves in N. Florida any more. I originally moved here in 1987, and drove by acres of dead citrus groves along the way. Also, there was a disease that killed a lot more of them (sorry, can't remember which one). Now it's citrus greening. Something is always trying to kill our citrus. I don't know why farmers don't catch on and go to other crops.
