Need sprinkler head info. concerning narrow bed

I just recently purchased a small condo. Next week I am having almost all of the tiny backyard paved with patio pavers. There will be a 30 foot by 15 inch area (which butts up to the neighbor's house) to use for flowers and small bushes. Originally, there was an automatic sprinking system in the back. I would like to come off the two pre-existing values and install an automatic system in the bed. However ...

I want to be careful not to spray water on my neighbor's stucco, and I don't want to water my patio. Can anyone suggest what type of sprinkler heads I should use, and how far apart I should install them.

I hate those small quarter-inch black hoses, as they always seem to pop off. Still, I am open to any suggestions.

Drip or Micro Irrigation.

I think Drip Irrigation would be the easiest to install and most efficient for your area. There will be no spray on your patio or neighbors house. Simply run the main water supply line down the length of the planting bed along the house or patio. Then attach the individual dripline pipes with drip emitters. Cover with mulch and your done.

Thank you for your quick response. I took a look at the example.
Is the item marked "lateral" a piece of PVC pipe? If so, I am assuming it is buried underground. I hope this is true, as I will be running PVC from existing values, under the new patio pavers, out to the long narrow garden area.

How big is the hose on which the emitters are attached? Again, if the lateral pipe is underground, then this hose must start at the underground position and come up above ground, to be placed around the trees and bushes. Right?

The emitter system is more elegant but it is more trouble if you have a lot of roses. I have about 280. For only a few roses it may be the better way if you don't mind being careful to keep it working. The problem for me is that the emitter system is designed to be on the surface where you can see it working but what if you are a big mulcher? The system will be buried and the little hoses that have to be extended to each rose can get moved or damaged. Most important the emitters have a membrane that can clog if you have well water even with filtration. I have had to replace most of them. Every year when I rake up mulch and add more I have to be very careful and I end up checking the system to make sure it ie working rose by rose. Contrast this with the soaker hose system where the hose is buried several inches deep. People say they clog up but mine never did. You just put it down and forget it.

Everyone, is correct, behind the artemesia is silver dollar eucalyptus. I was surprised it didn't suffer through our freezes (again, NW of Houston) and has really taken off this year, This one, I think, I got up at the ARE in Independence. I have another one that was supposed to be a dwarf or miniature I purchased at Mercer March Mart, but I don't like it's color or form nearly as well in the landscape. You can see it just poking in from the left in the same picture. It's smaller leaves make it more versatile in flower arranging though... As far as the trellis system is concerned: any system you use will require vigilence/maintenence once you have several hundred pounds of pressure pulling on the anchors and whatever connects them. I'm still bully on the Tumax product, because, if they come loose, I can always reapply more of the caulk/silicone/compound and stick it back up... I'll certainly report when I start having problems...

Re concerns stated by fromplattoplace -- 1) the video below addresses the failure rate & testing of sprinkler heads (although the info is from the UK I am fairly certain the same is done in the US). ; and 2) install is really only economical during new construction or extensive remodeling. Retrofit installs may be kept less expensive with wall, vice ceiling, mounted heads. However, I don't know if there are hidden wall heads similar to the hidden ceiling heads used in chiefneil's home. I'm guessing here but most plumbers will likely not touch a sprinkler system due to liability issues. If they are not certified for sprinkler systems they would have almost no legal or financial coverage in the event of a malfunction (you touch it you own it - or it owns you). In addition to spot or whole house coverage design there is also the issue of keeping sprinkler water separate from potable (drinking) water. The first fitting on a sprinkler branch off your main water feed is usually a backflow preventer. This prevents the stagnant, and soon undrinkable, water from flowing back into your potable supply. Improper installation of this valve can result in significant health issues. Hence, certified sprinkler installers with, I'm sure, significant liability insurance. My oldest wet his bed almost nightly until about 6 months ago. He's 13 1/2. I'd wake him up and literally walk him to the bathroom, where he'd stand there and sway back and forth, go walk into his closet, pee in there, then head back to bed. Sometimes he'd use the trash can. He'd have no memory of it in the morning. He was such a heavy, heavy sleeper. Sometimes it was best just to leave him in bed, at least I knew where he had the accident. We all laugh about it now, but he had the same problems, couldn't have sleep outs or sleepovers. Even now if he's going to sleep out, he won't drink anything after 7:00. He's still a very heavy sleeper. I had the same problem as a kid, so did his dad. And we were both heavy sleepers as kids. My son, also, unfortunately inherited my bladder size, so that doesn't help. The pediatrcian just advised that we wait it out and didn't give medication. I worry so much about my kids taking medications, and since this wasn't anything physically painful, we decided to wait it out. It took awhile, but things are fine. My younger two never had a problem, and both have bigger bladders than I do, I swear. They're not as heavy sleepers as the older one. Good luck. I know how frustrating it can be (daily stripping of the bed, frustrated child). Personally, I'd try to wait it out if you can, although I don't believe the medication has any side effects you should be concerned about.

No! Drip irrigation use polyethylene tubing as the main water delivery to the drippers. You will have to attach it to your existing PVC.

The main (lateral line) is not buried. Run the existing PVC under the patio toward one side of the bed (closes to the valve). Then attach the Poly to the pvc. From here you will be able to curve the ploy (its flexible) above ground and run it along the length of the bed.

How big is the hose on which the emitters are attached?

The Micro tube that connects to the main Ploy line is 1/8". This is the line where the emitters are attached

Armed with your suggestion and the diagram, I went to an irrigation and landscaping business and picked up the materials.
Thanks again for taking the time to respond so promptly, as I am on a bit of a time schedule. Wish there was some way for me to return the favor.

No problem. One more thing.

If you have a small grouping of plants you can snake the Micro tube through groups. No need to have an individual line for each plant. A larger plant or small tree should have its own Micro line.

Should the emitter be placed at the main line with the 1/4" tubing going out to the plant or the emitter at the end of the 1/4" tubing?
