Rainbird sprinkler APAS leaking
Comments (5)Hi Ike, I will ask you questions that should narrow down the problem a bit. First the automatic valves are independent from the controller except for the connecting wiring and each can be any product brand. If you can not find the exact origin of the leak it is best to ask a landscape contractor to have a look at what is wrong. It is hard to really know what is happening without actually seeing it in real life. Okay here are the questions: 1. Do you know how to turn on each zone(section)from the controller and manually from the valve? 2. How many zones in the system? Two ways to check this, first count the valves to each zone or second open the controller and look at the electrical hookups and count the wire connections but don't count the common wire connection. 3. Can you see water coming out of your lawn in one particular spot? 4. Does the sprinklers continue to pour out water after you shut off the valve from the controller? 5.. Can you see which zone work with which valve? Keep track as you test the system's zones. 6. What de-threaded itself? If you have more than one zone, you have more than one valve. It is very unusual to have a valve unthread itself being in line with buried pipe. Was the fitting above ground, in a valve box or buried? 7. Do you know how to work with cutting and connecting PVC pipe and threading parts together with teflon pipe tape? Yes, you do not have to buy an entire system again, but you might think about replacing the very old valves and controller. You can take this opportunity to reconfigure these main system items in places more to your liking. If you aren't comfortable with doing this yourself ask an akamai friend or landscape contractor. It is inexpensive if you do it yourself. Aloha...See MoreSprinklers come on before controller turned on
Comments (2)N, Your post is slightly confusing. Is you system manual and you turn it on by turning a valve each time to irrigate? Why would the controller be unplugged before irrigation starts? Did you actually see the sprinklers come on plugging in the controller? or were the sprinkler on because they never were turned off(Flooding)? Can you turn on and off each zone manually from your controller? Aloha...See MoreSprinkler: 1 of 2 zones won't turn on
Comments (3)Aloha icbuyer, Not likely unless the controller is broken which is a possibility. How old is the controller? Since I don't have a diagram of your system, I can only ask questions. 1. Does your system have two different sources from your house or if they are both connected from the main house feed line, do they have separate shut off valves? 2. Is their a faucet connected to the mainline that goes to the backyard. See if it has water coming from it. What I would do is find out at what point the water stops along its route to the backyard. Try to describe how the water gets to the backyard from the street and what fixtures are along its route. At the worst remove the suspect valve and see if water can get to that point. Replace the auto valve if it is faulty. If it is still a problem check the wiring connections to the controller/valve. If that doesn't do it then replace the contoller. Hope this helped. GL. Comments (1)Yep, sounds like a mechaincal failure. Does your valve have a flushing cap you can remove and flsuh out some of the debris if present? (my toro's do). Else you will have to unscrew the top and check the seals, ect. They sell replacement seals, solenoids, ect so that you will not have to replace the entire valve. Freezing can do it; most likely debris in the line... either stuck in there or damaged the seal on the way "through"....See Moreirrigirl
