I had Wild Blue Yonder in a rather prominent spot in the front yard but got rid of it because the thick canes and awkward growth became an eyesore. I don't know Fragrant Plum but because of its unlovely growth (at least in my garden) I would put WBY on a trellis. However, I live in a zone very different from yours and my advice may not be worth much. I hope you have responses from someone closer to your zone to give you more accurate information for your conditions.

Lily-of-the-valley is of the knock-your-socks-off family, provided you plant in a controlled area so you won't be overrun with it. A few LOTV stems in a bouquet with Lilac will help satisfy your urges towards beauty and scent. I also suggest freesia for a bulb, and agree with more lilies. Is there such a thing as too many lilies? I think not. Sweet alyssum is great for an annual along walkways or bed borders, or even in pots at the base of larger specimens. And you can just till them under next season. Not sure how long your growing season is but I have to suggest one of my favorites, a plumeria tree. You could grow it in a large pot with wheels as I do here, if you have room in your garage or basement to overwinter it. I'd be happy to ship you a cutting of a pretty pink cultivar which I don't know the proper name of, but which knocks my socks off annually from May till October in Zone 10/13. Your garden already sounds like an enchanting perfume oasis but like the composer of an unfinished symphony, you can always stuff in a few more notes to round out the whole work! Not box stores driving nurseries out of business here but the seemingly unstoppable rise of that US import - the Garden Centre. True, everything is under one roof and you can buy an (overpriced ) drink while browsing...but their inventory is limited to maybe 2 types of certain perennials, a handful of common and popular favourites such as the hardy geraniums and absolutely nothing which has slipped off the top 40 list. Meanwhile, our wonderful nurseries, run by real expert plant growers, offering an unsurpassed range at half the cost (overheads) are vanishing because people apparently want to go on a coach trip - buy ornaments and jewellery and other tat and spend a morning in a coffee shop whilst being served by a clueless school-leaver on minimum wage. Even so, I can choose from a dozen small nurseries less than 25miles away which are often specialised and always a source of valuable advice. I think most of these will have vanished in my lifetime - although I still have faith in the egalitarian nature of gardening and the deep passions plants arouse in British gardeners. I have been a reluctant convert to mail order but on the plus side, I have become a lot more capable of propagating and producing my own stock. Seeing a much loved nursery close it's doors seems like a sad defeat for the free gardening spirit and a victory for capital driven, market solutions which do not sit well on this anarchist's shoulders.

I wrote to HCR recently, and Matt replied to my questions on how to order for spring 2020, plus info. on fragrant OGR. Here are Matt's replies from High Country Roses: "From Matt: I am sorry for any confusion with the website. At this point, and up until December, we are shipping this year's stock while concurrently getting plants ready for 2020. As a result, we can't add plants for next year until we have stopped shipping for this year. The website is updated right around January 1st with availability for 2020. I was actually visiting my sister, who is still running her nursery in Utah, over the weekend. You're correct, Marie Pavie does pretty well with shade. Most of the polyanthas tend to be shade tolerant. It also has a bit stronger fragrance than the other polyanthas. Although as a group, the polyanthas are not terribly fragrant. Both Königin von Dänemark and Felicite Parmentier are pretty tough propagators. As a result, they can be tough to get. I generally steer people toward Rose de Rescht, Ispahan, and Sidonie for very fragrant old garden roses. You can always narrow your search by fragrance on the left column on the website. Violet's Pride is quietly becoming one of my favorite roses. It really was a show in the greenhouse this summer. Flowers are fragrant and should hold together well. Easy Does It tend to have a little shorter stem and may not be quite as good of a cut rose. It is quite fragrant though. Both will do best in full sun, but can tolerate some shade.
