In my experience campanula persicifolia is not at all invasive. It does make extra plants, but these are easily moved when they are small. It's a lovely plant--blooming in my garden right now.

I just took that wheelbarrow of dirt and dumped in on my blacktop driveway, which was so hot it was very hard to walk on barefoot! I spread it out to less than a half inch deep. I would think that the direct sun on such shallow soil will fry those roots. I would think that this direct sun would be different than roots being able to withstand drought conditions... no?

I'll probably plant them next to the house then. :C) Someone bought me some digitalis and the spot that the Campanula was is ideal for it. So perhaps it was good I dug it up.

I agree with jayco. I like this plant and don't find it to be invasive, certainly not like other certain campanulas. I've never had to dig that deep to eradicate it! It will spread a bit - probably by seed because sometimes the babies never come up anywhere near the parent. But it's a long bloomer so that's OK with me. I like the baby blue colored flowers. I'd keep some around.

Gardening is really a fascinating (& frustrating) experience. I could not even get 3 plants of campanula persificolia to overwinter in an amended clay bed near my house (upper part of the yard with the best drainage). Certainly can't imagine it being invasive. LOL.

I also can't imagine nice loose soil that looks like yours Eigdeh :~) Great job! Don't you know soil is this dense sticky stuff you cut out with a sharp spade in spring or take a pick-axe to in summer!

C. glomerata, which is invasive for many, can survive and even spread a bit in a ground level bed in my yard and I did manage after several tries to get milky bellflower going in a highly amended somewhat raised bed.

I have Campanula Latifolia is this type of bellflower also very invasive? I'm new to gardening and had no idea that this was invasive. This is my second year with the plants. I have five of them. And I love their flowers. Mine are purple.

Adenophora is not a campanula. Sometimes called ladybells it looks similar to campanulas. It is a vigorous spreader and also self seeds in my garden. IMHO, it is worth growing if you have a place for it. I dress up my rhubarb bed by putting clumps between the rhubarb plants. The clump in my flower bed gets ripped up by the roots after bloom. That way it doesn't spread.

I've been battling Adenophora for years; people here let it self sow and there's just no stopping it. Although I've tried digging and smothering with some success, this year I'm going to resort to Roundup, because it's overrun a garden bed that needs to be reworked. I can't see leaving any of it alive, which is what has happened with the low-impact treatments, since I'll be amending the soil and adding some well-behaved plants.

And I agree with everyone that C. persicifolia can't be classified as invasive. It's a lovely plant. As for C. glomerata - I really wish I'd never met it.

Adenophora and C. persicafolia...perhaps that should be "or"...are (or is) a huge pest in my beds. I have not allowed the pest to flower in about 20 years, but still it creeps...it's in every clump of day lily, most hosta, lamium and many other things.
I round it up when I can...but not in the middle of a day lily clump.

The stuff I read about Adenophoria here got me scared, so I moved it to the far back of my property. It grew well after the move, but it did not come back this spring. I am sort of happy it did not come back.

The Campanula seemed to get less complaints, so I moved it out of the big garden into a small one that I did not mind it spreading a bit. It is doing beautifully this year. The plants themselves increased in area nicely, but it did not seem to spread by underground runners. I really like the plant and I am glad I did not just dig it out and chuck it.

I love my Campanula persicfolia. It is the only Campanula allowed in my yard. I have both a blue and a white one. C\They are basically well behaved and beautiful. Glomerata is nasty.

We have one here that is a horrible weed C rapunuloide. My neighbor bought it 10-15 years ago she moved and the plant moved to my yard. I am still fighting it.
