All you can do is try it! Might surprise you. Then again, if the tranny is groaning on hills now, any more of a slope will surely show you what to do next.
If it works well, but slips a lot, then a more aggressive tire tread might be needed. Although, i have one customer who has a hilly yard, and he only has lawn tires, not ribbed type, and has no problems.

My LT155 is going on 10 years old. I have a yard with some pretty hilly areas. I've sort of gotten used to leaning properly to get enough traction in my hilly areas. The tires that come on the tractor are a compromise (like everything else) between keeping your lawn from being torn up and enough traction to get you where you need to go.....I find the tractor capable enough for most situations I encounter.

Have you had any unusual or reoccurring maintenance problems?

The only major problems that I have had with the tractor was a condenser in the ignition system that went out, and a reoccurring problem of losing the bolts that holds the motor to the frame. I must check them during spring maintenance.
