Prune climbing roses in wrong way

hmmm562

I have two climbing roses I planted last year, Ginger Syllabub and Rosarium Uetersen. I planted them very late last year , so they did not do too much. This year when I did the spring pruning, I forgot they are climbers and trimed them as the normal rose bush way. Right now I feel they do not do too much again. I would like to know if I have given them some sort of shock? Will they grow vigorously later on of the season? Thank you!!
