Help me choose a privacy planting - please!?!

We moved into a newer development (9 years old) and there is a neighbor's house almost directly behind ours. In the very back part of the lot are 2 Blue Spruces that will take year's to provide any true privacy barrier. I want to add plantings on the boundaries of the back corner of property (around the Spruces) to provide privacy. I am currently looking between using Leyland Cypress and Douglas Fir, but am open to other options. My main concern is that the property has a mile of open farm land directly upwind and we get such severe wind gusts that I am afraid of a tree getting knocked over. We are in clay-type soil and in Zone 6. Here is a picture of of back lawn and the planting schematics:
