Echo Backpack - Pulling my hair out!!!

So, I have an Echo PB-403T which ran great for the past few years. Lately it has been bogging out at about half throttle and spitting gas out of the carb. Blowing leaved at that speed just isn't fun, so I removed, thoroughly cleaned and rebuilt the carb with a Zama rebuild kit. put it all back together and it's still doing the same thing. It's spitting gas back out the air filter. Doesn't matter how I adjust the high speed screw, it still blows back gas out of the carb.

Does the PB-403T have a reed valve on the intake? Am I missing something? I'm pulling my hair out on this one.

D: A rebuild kit will do nothing to restore fuel response on a partially restricted High speed circuit. Get some concentrated fuel cleaner and spray the high speed jet circuit and low speed while your at it . Replace the fuel with fresh mix and additional 2 ounces of carb cleaner at let it sit for 20 minutes . Start the Blower and keep it running until the cleaner begins to remove the gum and residue within the system . Normally 1/2 tank does the job extremely well . Next time ensure to put Stabil while storing and Lucas Top end cleaner / lube during seasonal start up Tank .

A clog muffler will also cause gas to blow back through the carb.Take the muffler off and check the spark arrester screen in the muffler.Hope this helps.

an easier way fell into my lap, well mail box, really. 2 little boys down the road left a flyer in my mailbox and i'm having them de-weed my garden and re mulch. nice cheap labor. haha. Try to find something similar in your area.

Right-o to what everybody else says. I never plant my roses more than two deep, and then only if I can access the bed from both sides. You need to be able to get at them. I heartily agree with madgallica that you need other plants besides roses. Spring bulbs are wonderful under roses. Plant some clematis to scramble among the roses and bloom in the summer. Get something evergreen for winter--a columnar yew? how does box do in your area? Other shrubs for variety of foliage and bloom and fruit, for fall color: viburnums and barberry offer possibilities. Late summer flowers, perhaps Japanese anemones or dahlias. If you offer room to these other plants, I think that in the long run you will find that your garden will be more beautiful and more interesting over a longer period. If it were me I'd eliminate some of the doubles, but that's my style--well, all of this is--and not necessarily yours. Melissa

I like a lot of your contract points bevangel. When we built our garage in 2003, we hired a framer who was also a friend. He and his helper didn't show up the first day, or the second, or the third. Dh is the son of a carpenter/builder and knows how to do the work, but he has had back surgery and shouldn't be doing it. But on the 3rd day, he got antsy and we had 3 walls up before the framer finally showed up about 3pm and they put up the 4th wall. The next day they started putting up trusses and dh went to his real job. That night, he was looking at the work done and saw that the trusses weren't set on the same marks on each side. The helper must have either been measuring from a different starting point or he was using the metric side of the tape. Anyway, dh spent that evening moving one side so it lined up with the other side and he let the framer know about it so they would do the rest right. The next day, no framer. The next day they showed up at 4pm. and only got a couple of trusses set. The next day they finished the trusses and then we didn't see them again for 3 days. Then they started putting up the plywood subsiding and decking. After they finished that, we didn't see them again for a week. During that week, it rained and the plywood warped. The next time they showed up, they started putting siding over the warped plywood. I stopped them and told them the warped siding had to be replaced first. They said they would so I left them to it. When dh came home that night, he found that they had replaced a couple of the lower pieces of plywood and sided over the rest. And it was really wavy. Dh called him, told him to come get a check and not come back. I roofed most of the garage by myself and dh and I replaced the warped plywood and finished the Hardi-plank siding. The plumber left his assistant to put in the gas line and water heater. He did fine with the line but he installed the water heater with the controls facing the wall and in a cabinet with no way to reach them. Dh had to redo that. The concrete contractor and the electrician were both terrific, so it wasn't like every sub was a problem, but the framer caused enough grief to make up for all of them. That was at a time when building was still good and even getting bids for a small job was hard. Our biggest mistake was hiring a friend, who used our friendship and put us last while he ran off to work on other jobs. We aren't friends any more. A contract from our end and not just their end would have made a big difference.

I found it! Went shopping in New Orleans and stopped by Home & Garden in Covington, LA. This store had been written talked about in some of the decorating blogs I frequent. Truly eye candy city. They carry Suzanne Kasler's Hickory Chair line. Absolutely beautiful. I could have stayed there forever. But, after I stopped drooling over the beautiful furniture, I found THE chandelier. I can't wait to hang it and post pictures but, I thought I would share. What do you think? Do you guys like it? Thanks for all the wonderful advice. I'll post pics after I hang it. I also found all my fabric at a great place in New Orleans that has the best prices on Jefferson Linen. I can post if anyone is interested.

I will check the exhaust for blockage which makes sense knowing it runs, but spits fuel out the carb on acceleration.

I had the carb completely apart on rebuild and it spent a few minutes in my ultrasonic parts cleaner. I don't think deposits are the problem, but I will definitely look in that direction next.

If I can't figure it out, it's going on ebay for parts.

I rather doubt the problem is a carbon deposit issue within the exhaust system causing excessive back pressure. I have Serviced and Tuned 1/2 dozen Echo's within the last few yrs and only one had excessive carbon fouling accumulation issues. In that case (Gas Trimmer)the owner had mistakenly doubled the recommended 50-1 Fuel/Oil Ratio and had compounded it with using a cheap variety store multi use 2-stroke oil . Never hurts to check your exhaust (muffler) but Echo mufflers can be easily damaged . I would simply check the spark plug and piston dome for evidence of excessive oily carbon particulate. I have serviced numerous Echo Saws and not one has shown evidence of any carbon fouling but then the Epa has pretty well looked after that within the last few yrs on the Professional Saw Market lol . If the unit has been used buy others and is older than your 2 yr scenario , then by all means the service and operating criteria could be suspect . As for ultrasonic cleaners they take much more than a few minutes to effectively remove any particulate or residual build up within a 2-stroke carb. However you are on the right track and have done most everything than ensure a new plug and properly tune the unit. I suspect you have cap limiters so there is not much tuning really required . The spark arrester screen on my Echo string trimmer was plugged up once. It sputtered a bit on the first couple of pulls but wouldn't run at all until I removed the spark arrester screen. After that it started and ran fine. Of course I tried fixing everything else first.
