Anyone Have a Star Magnolia in Colorado?

I'm in CO in zone 5a, and saw some gorgeous star magnolia shrubby trees at our local Home Depot. I think the tag said "Royal Star Magnolia". I did a little online research and it seems they are hardy to zone 4, but I also read some one site that mentioned cold winter temps can freeze and kill the buds, and hotter climates can kill the blooms off very quickly during blooming season.

I'm wondering if anyone in CO near my zone has experience with growing a star magnolia. We are thinking of planting it next to our back patio for privacy, but if it won't bloom decently I'm hesitant to plant it since I'd like something that flowers nicely. Anyone with experience or opinions to share?

Thanks!
