Red Blaze rose has black spot.. Now what??

I have a Blaze that is 5 years old now and it got black spot two summers ago and lost most of its leaves and bloomed very little. Last year I used Bayer all in Drench and sprayed and it did great so I used the Bayer again this year hoping it would work again but now it has many leaves covered with blackspot but has many blooms ready to open... So now what can I do?? Its very tall so can not reach all the leaves and its seems pointless to try to remove them at this point..

Give Mancozeb a try. You should be able to find it at your local nursery. Dilute as directed and spray all roses well, including the ground around them. Use mancozeb on an BS infected rose once every 3 days for 9 days. Then go to once a week for a month. After that I would alternate Bayer Advanced spray with the mancozeb every couple weeks. I got this advice a couple years ago here on the forum. The mancozeb kills the active BS. My local nursery also sprays all their roses with mancozeb once a week. Not a lick of BS.

I went to 3 places Ace Hardware, Walmart and our local nursery and the nursery only had the Bayer Advanced so I got that. Who might carry the Mancobzeb?? Would the Bayer Advanced work or should I get both?? Who sells it??

Okay, dash and seil. I have been working on red climber projects for a few years now in Michigan's upper peninsula. I have a rose that was labeled Blaze when I bought it and I became suspicious of whether it was Blaze or Blaze Improved. So I bought a plant labeled Blaze Improved from High Country Roses last spring. Is there a way to tell the difference between Blaze and Blaze Improved? Is the only difference the repeat blooming? I think both roses are still getting their roots under them but the first "Blaze" gave me a couple of flushes of blooms last year. I have tried to pair it with a Climbing Iceberg but up here, the Blaze outgrows the Iceberg. Climbing Iceberg always adds some suspense to the garden when I wonder whether it will survive the winter (with a rose cone filled with oak leaves and a mound of dirt). I am unaware of another white climber that would match up with a red Blaze. By the way, I have tried Dublin Bay twice here and it never survived the winter. Has anyone else been able to grow it this far north?

I'm very late coming to this discussion. It is now May 2019. I live in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, zone 8. I grow an extensive collection of roses, all of which are no spray. If any of my plants show enough black spot to defoliate the plant, or rust for that matter, they are shovel pruned without hesitation. However that doesn't stop me having an entire yard of roses. For Toronto consider the Canadian bred roses grown on their own roots. They are all wonderful plants. 'Campfire' is outstanding. I also have great success with 'Violet's Pride' and 'Edith's Darling' from the Downton Abby series. An outstanding rose is 'Julia Child'. This yellow rose is in it's second year in my garden. Already a very sturdy plant with no disease problems at all. So the point is, don't stop growing roses. Grow roses with superior genetics. Also make sure you have good growing conditions. That means soil that is friable and water retentive, but not water logged. I use a combination of steer manure and peat moss mixed together to create excellent soil. When watering, don't wet foliage if possible. Water the root area. Make sure your roses are getting enough sunlight.

They had a pink climbing rose at Lowes but forget the name of it. Would have got one but they looked pretty pathetic. I looked on the tag of the 2nd one said it was grown in Canada but it didn't have the name of "Demokracie" anywhere on the tag that was tied with string around the main branch of it. So I imagine like the first one it is the Original blaze. It is doing so awesome the first one. Here is a picture of it. And I found out I can plant the 2nd one I got up against the Wooden Fence like this one only further down. YAY!! Discovered caterpillar or rose slugs not sure which on it anyhow I picked them off and threw them over the fence :) Was on just one branch as you could tell by the leaves. I also removed two that had the leaves like a cocoon with the caterpillar in it so just removed that entire leaf bract and pitched it over the fence. Haven't seen any since on it. I didn't want to spray it as we do have chickadees and chipping sparrows come to our gardens too. Have set up a small birdhouse in it and the chickadee have taken up residence it . They are sooooooo cute.

Thank you all so much for the advice and information. I will follow up the links. The plant is doing better after three weeks in another location. I had it in a container in a full sun spot in our backyard but that garden has poor air circulation as a result of us being surrounded by other houses on three sides. I moved the plant to the side of the house, which has fewer hours of direct sunlight but much better air flow and the plant is looking much better. I have fewer infected leaves, new leaves and new buds. I thought I was going to have to get rid of the plant eventually but I feel more hopeful now from the comments about helping it to ride out this very damp weather. The advice about learning which varieties will thrive in my area is spot on. I was about to buy more hybrid teas but after the experience with the Olympiad, I got an Apricot Drift Rose instead for its disease resistance and it seems to be doing very well: lots of glossy, dark leaves and adorable, fragrant little blooms. It looks great in a large urn container next to my front door. I'm renting, hence the containers. If anyone is willing to share what varieties they've had success with in Toronto, I'd be grateful.

Bayer Advanced Disease Control is supposed to be a surface fungicide in addition to being a systemic. But, I don't know if the "3 times/3 days" treatment is the same, someone else would have to answer.

Rosemania.com sells manzate/mancozeb under the name Pentathlon. I get mancozeb locally under the Bonide label, Mancozeb Flowable with Zinc.

I think I saw they had a Bonide label there next to the Bayer but did not take much notice to what was in it..I would like how to apply the Bayer Advanced since I bought it?? so with Mancozeb (Bonide) do you do 1 treatment every 3 days for 9 days??

I also buy mancozeb under the Bonide label "Mancozeb Flowable with Zinc". I have used the mancozeb once every 3 days for 9 days on existing blackspot. Then use it once a week for the next 4 weeks. Then I alternate Bayer and mancozeb every couple weeks. It did the trick and did not spread to other bushes, although I was sure to spray all my roses and the ground surrounding them because the bs can be there but not visible yet. According to the folks at Rosemania, mancozeb is the treatment of choice if the bs is already visible and to use Bayer as a good preventative.
I live in Missouri and we have hot and humid summers. My neighbor's roses get blackspot...but not my roses.
