Comments (3)Does anyone have any feedback on the toro timecutter series? Either the 4200, 4235, 4260, or even the new mx4260 with the fab deck. Im leaning towards one but Ive heard mixed reviews, some good some bad. Also wondering if anyone has used the bagger with these models? If so how good do they work? Any feedback would be helpful. Just dont want to regret a $3000 mistake. Thanks...See MoreToro 20332 uneven cutting
Comments (2)Excellent post and completely understandable, but I don't think anything is wrong with the mower. I'm confident you'll get an excellent cut with the bag on, which is typical of any mower. The problem for mulching is, the mower can't suck and blow at the same time. In oder to blow the clippings upward so they can be re-cut, the discharge port has to be closed. The resultant air flow created by the fan-like blade has to exit under the mower, which is why it can blow grass down when mulching as high as 3.5". Just make sure to criss-cross next time you mow. Also, try alternating mulching and bagging which works for me to even it out. Is the old mower at the same height as the new one? If it's at 3" or less it could explain why it cuts better in mulching. Every mower I've had did what you're reporting when mulching at 3.5" or higher. We're getting regular rain so far, so I'm having to cut twice a week. This helps keep the cut even, but there are some uncut blades here and there. I don't think a Fescue lawn can be perfect at 3.5" because a lot of the grass lays down, which is why you can get some uncut blades. Coming back next time with the bag on takes care of it....See MoreToro 20066 bagging problem
Comments (36)I had the same problem with clippings shooting out from the top of the bag spraying all over me. If you place the bag into the slotted frame allowing the rear door to rest on top of the bag, as the bag fills with grass it gets heavy causing a horizontal gap between the bag and the rear door allowing grass clipping to spray everywhere. The way to fix this is to do the following: If you notice, there are two protruding black notches on the backside (underneath) of the rear door. Lift the rear door up placing the bag into the slotted notches. Now lift the bag (grabbing it from the very back) all the way up to the metal push bar all the while keeping the bag in the notches and then lower the rear door onto the bag. You will notice the protruding black notches grabs onto the bags metal triangle bar creating a friction fit pushing the bag into the lawnmower. When you start the mower the bag inflates and as grass enters the bag it pulls down on the bag creating a tight fit all around. No more grass clippings flying out everywhere! STEPS: Lowering lid does not create a tight seal cuasing clippings to spray Placing bag into notches and lifting rear up to push bar While holding rear bag up, lower rear door pushing notches onto metal bar. Once you feel the friction fit, let go of the bag allowing it to settle into place Rear door is attached to bag creating a tight compression fit around the lawnmower...See MoreFrustrated - Need a new mower - HD, Toro SR, LB?
Comments (7)wv: I've had similar, disappointing experiences w/ Craftsman (& others). I also work too much to be able to mow more often than 1x/wk. B/c I believe in mulching rather than bagging & can't afford to mow more than 1x/wk, I did a lot of research before purchasing the HRR2163VXA. I have no personal experience W/ Toro, but can tell you that I am extremely pleased w/ the HRR2163VXA. It is an outstanding mulcher- even with thick, damp grass. Although I was hesitant about complaints about the thumb control of the VXA, I really appreciate the sensitivity & strength of the variable smart drive system, not to mention the other quality & convenience features of the mower. The deck design (lots of volume capacity beneath the deck) & quadra cut blade design really fill the bill for mulching. The BBC is a major feature in this price range, & although it may engage too easily during the course of mowing with relaxation of hand grip, it is supposed to be improved by adjustment under warranty & is worth it (for the $500 price range), regardless. I also really like the option of not having to use the self propulsion, unlike the Lawn Boy where it has to be engaged just by virture of pushing on the handle bar. I enjoy the option of choosing whether I want to exert myself while mowing. Additionally, the motor speed control lever is a big plus for me b/c I have a "patchy" lawn, i.e. some spots are very thick & lush & others are (unfortunately) rather "thin." Therefore, w/ the VXA I can throttle down gowing thru the thin parts & go to full power only when I need it in the thick parts of the lawn. It uses less gas that way. If I was in a more expensive market, I'd go for the HRX w/ the hydrostatic drive & the most desireable 190 motor. However, the VXA has proven, to me, to be an excellent choice for mulching in thick grass. Good luck in your choice....See Moremssurveyor
