The Boardmoor is a nice machine. I over bought when I purchased a Conquest. Glad I did. It's been a wonderful machine and mows beautifully. In my opinion I would rather over buy than under buy.

Not overkill at all. Even for the .5 acre it will be fine. I used my Conquest at my last house and it was only .75 acre.

I have a Broadmore and really like it. This may not be the best deal though, it depends on the the engine size/type and the size of the deck. A dealer near me offered me a 2006 model at a similar price, but it had a single cylinder 18 hp engine and a 38 " deck. It too appeared to be a great price, but these two features turned me off. Ended up with a 2007, 20 HP twin with 44" deck for a little over $3500 after rebate (this took some negotiating). Make sure you understand how the Simplicty deck is attached and how it operates. It is significantly different from most machines out there today and may not be well suited to your application. As far as the quality of the amchine and quality of cut, it is truly unsurpassed, but I'm not sure how well it would perform in a "rough" yard application.

I vote overkill. .5 acres is definitely easily in the Regent territory. 2 acres of flat land w/ very light hauling is STILL in Regent territory.

Both of those situations are also Broadmoor territory. You just have a slighly bigger more capable machine to do it. Not that th Regent can't but the Broadmoor could do it easier.

I am guessing it's overkill but I picked up a Conquest to take care of about .6 acre. I am a big guy and the larger tractor is more comfortable.

Update. I stopped by the dealer that was giving me this deal and it turned out not to be a 2006 but a 2004 with a 16hp Honda engine with a 44" deck. Is this a good deal still? Also, while I was there the dealer tried to tell me that a Hustler Mini-Fastrack or a Toro Cutter Z Series would fit my needs better if all I was doing was mowing. I mentioned to him about the slopes and he said that wouldnt be a problem. Should I even be looking at a zero turn?

Overkill depends on perspective. A Snapper RER (@ about $1300 new) could be more than enough for 1/2 acre, but I don't know what your slopes look like, or if you plan to tow a cart with it. Any zero-turn would be waaay overkill. If your wallet can take it, a Broadmoor would be very nice, and give you options (towing a cart, snow blade, etc.). Broadmoor is not too big, if that is what you mean by overkill. It certainly has capabilities well in excess of what you are likely to ask of it.

IMHO, $2600 for a new(?!) 2004 Broadmoor 16 hp Honda 44" deck strikes me as a bit high. (But what do I know.) 16 hp isn't overkill, but certainly adequate. You don't need 20+ hp to run a 44" deck. Still, a nice mower.

Personally, I'd never want to commit that amount of time to mowing. I love to mow but I'd rather do it twice a week an hour at time that having it be a 2hr chore every time out.

I just sold a Regent for this exact reason. I'm adding 2 acres of yard to my existing .5 acres of lawn and couldn't imagine mowing it with a Regent.

I would go for the Broadmoor. I have a Conquest for 3+ acres, complete with hills, that mows, hauls and blows the snow away.
You can't have too much tractor.

Not exactly sure, but $2600.00 for an 04 sounds a little high. See if you can talk him down a bit.

I have about 2/3 of an acre and purchased a Broamoor last year. 18 HP single cylinder Kohler Command and 44" deck.
It cut my mowing time in half! I love it. Overkill? Maybe...but it makes me happy and does a great job.

IMHO, you need a push mower.

A new 04 Broadmoor with a 44" deck and a Honda engine for the price of a Regent ? That mower went for around $3500 with the $300 rebate back in 04 . Go to the Simplicity website and see what they want for a new Broadmoor to see what a steal of a deal this is ! I was looking for one of those two years ago and the closest machine I found was a 38" deck with a 18 horse Vanguard for $3050 . For your needs that's a 20 year plus machine given routine maintenance . I'd jump on that deal - although I'd be a bit skeptical about the honesty of a dealer recommending a zero turn for .5 acre .
