It'll work fine but it has to be mixed so there's contact with the browns. I did the same as you with spinach and the darned stuff kept right on growing. Had to chop it up and blend in before it started to break down.

usually the companies here give away their coffee grounds to other people or actually sell them -.-" i mean we don't have many coffee shops to begin with and the very few often run dry on used grounds as im not the only gardener in the state and we live in a small state since it's Hawaii. i often use my own grounds but i am talking about an outside pile i mean 1 cup of coffee does not yield a lot of grounds in general and the pile outside will need over 50 cups that is for sure more likely more due to some of the grounds washing away into the soil. but i have been using my urine to compost this pile 3 months into it been using it about 2 times a week moving into 3. and it's been doing great. the middle is all composted it's rich black and doesn't smell like piss. should be able to get a good yield within a year. would be less but people keep adding browns to it making it hard to harvest in time. it usually rains a lot and my pile can get rained on. im looking only to use the urine until it's composted a decent amount to the fact i can water it down and retain the moisture i'll use diluted urine

Good for you! This reminds me of an earlier thread on recycling, where, if I recall correctly, you brought home recycling from work, did you not? I believe it was you who bought mugs for co-workers too, to cut down on paper/styro cups. I also bring home recycling from work, and an occasional banana peel from a co-worker, but I never thought to put a little bucket out for other compostables. What a great idea! One more try.... Rotting is not necessarily composting. If you have mush sitting in a bucket rotting for two weeks, what you have is NOT compost!!! What you have is anaerobic decomposition, which will form volatile organic compounds. It is the VOCs that cause the rot to stink. VOCs are toxic to worms and just about anything else. Unless everything that has ever been true about composting suddenly changed in the last few weeks. Judging by what is being posted on this board lately, it seems that it has. Letting food decompose for a few days, great. Though I prefer to let that happen in the worm bin than in a bucket. Putting it in a bucket for two weeks to get slimy and smelly is not good. Hopefully, I have finally made my point. As for the onions and citrus, have at it. My worms were fine with onion peels, though they broke down slowly, and they loved citrus once it had a chance to break down a bit. Celbrise, you had a new bin with three worms in it, none of which were composting worms, and suddenly you are the resident expert in the subject, while those of us who have been successfully managing worm bins for years, and learned from experts in the field who used to frequent these forums, know nothing. Something is not right with that. Please try managing your bin for a few months before you try to tell the rest of us how to manage ours.
