I used a set of Titan 489XT 6-ply's on a Simplicity Landlord last year and they did a super job as far as traction and not cutting up the yard.Had them filled with windshield washer fluid.Night and day difference from the original Turf tires.

The big problem with ATV tires is finding the right size for a tractor.If they're too tall you run the risk of hitting a fender or the back end of the mower deck.

Those aren't modified AG tires. They are simple ATV tires.
And yes a lot of them do supply better traction than AG's due to being made using softer material.
You can find a lot of Radial ATV tires and a lot of them can be found that are 6 Ply rated.
My Husqvarna 2754 has 23 X 10.5 x 12 tires and when I get new ones. I plan on going with a set of ITP Terracross R/T's in 25 x 8 or 10 x 12. I know that they are rather expensive at $110.00 each. But they do ride soft and dig like crazy on an ATV.

I know that they are 2 inches taller. But they will fit under the fender and should pose no problem if I also go with two inch higher front tires as well. For even now with the stock tires I can adjust the deck as low as it will go and pick the front or rear of the tractor up about three inches before the deck ever starts to move. I will either go with Terracross or the 6 ply radial Maxxis Big Horns. I had a set of Bighorns on a Honda 450ES Foreman and they were about the best tires that I have found for an ATV. Had over 4000 miles on them before it was stolen and they showed very little wear even with all of the paved road riding we did.

When I back my tractor out of my shed I have to prop the door open so it won't close while I'm pulling out. usually I get off the tractor and close it after that, but today I left it open, and ten minutes into cutting my grass I caught the aluminum edge with my tire. I didn't slash the tire immediately, and if I'd just stopped what I was doing and eased my way out of the situation I probably would have saved the tire, but instead I did the knee-jerk reaction and immediately hit the reverse pedal. In less than a second my tires went from 20psi to zero, leaving an inch-wide slash right in the sidewall. I never liked those tires anyway, but it's a shame I ruined a tire that still had the nubs on the tread.
The tractor's a John Deere GT series, with 23x10.5x12 Titan Turf Master, I think. They weren't exactly great tires when it comes to traction. My yard is nearly flat, but I have a drainage ditch along the street which is graded and sodded, but about a 30 degree slope (enough that I have to hang onto the uphill fender to stay in my seat). It gets a little hairy mowing that and I've lost traction a few times trying to turn out of it or cross it perpendicularly. I've been thinking about getting some more aggressive tires, like the ones on the X700 series. Or possbly some ATV tires. Is there any real difference in the construction between ATV tires and tractor tires? I mean it's not a different bead profile on the rim or anything, right? I like the Maxxis Bighorns. I also like the All-Tracs, although they're only a 2pr and 16lbs, vice 6pr, 21 lbs of rubber for the Bighorns. I'm also looking at the Carlisle AT-489, which are $88 for 23x10x12 at jack's small engines.
I need to get something soon. I don't want to have to push my lawn, but if I don't figure something out soon, I'll be walking around with green shoes.

I just posted some pix today. One shows my Woods MZ with the Carlisle Stryker tires in 23x10-12. This size is discontinued, but there are some around. I replaced a 40 hour set of Carlisle Turf Masters.

You'll notice they are mounted backwards. I didn't need anymore forward traction, but reverse traction.

i bought Carlisle AT-489's at Walmart for a tad over 100.00 in a 12" rim size.
Mounted them myself, but had one problem, even a LARGE air compressor would not seat the beads, even using a expander around tire, we had to take valve core out of the valve stem, and end off of air compressor hose, push hose down over valve stem, then open the lever valve on compressor to get one BIG shot of air long enough to pop the beads up, of course we didnt hold it on the tire after, soon as beads popped, i let hose off of the valve stem, if you didnt, tire might explode. Just a warning if you mount yourself, you may have trouble getting beads up..
Been running them tubeless for a year or so and except for adjusting air pressure (playing around with traction) they have not leaked off at all.
And remember, a 2" taller tire, is only 1" "taller" on each side of the rim, same with taking a 8" wide off and putting on a 10" wide, its only a 1" wider each way, have to remember that when checking width and height on replacements.
And a word about mud, just because you have a aggressive bar tread ATV tire, dont assume it will blast thru gooey mud like a ATV does, a tractor does not have the rear wheel speed to clean the tire like a ATV does, and they will and do, pack up and become slicks, sure they will do better than turfs, but not near as good as when they are on a ATV.
